We will all “spring ahead” by one hour this coming Sunday, and our seniors will soon “spring ahead” into the next phase of their lives. Whether they will be enrolling in a four-year university, commuting to NOVA community college, joining the military or entering the workforce, the world around them will grow exponentially.
As parents, we have been preparing them for this launch into near-adulthood for years. Everything from encouraging them to advocate for themselves with teachers and coaches to insisting they get summer jobs has helped them to mature, think critically and hold themselves accountable for their own actions.
Our seniors will be given another opportunity for personal growth through group discussion and self-reflection when they participate in Senior Ethics Day next Wednesday.
Students will be presented with complex situations that they could realistically find themselves in during their post-high school years. They will be encouraged to listen to other students at their table, express their thoughts, exchange ideas and debate the merits of various solutions. The goal of the Senior Ethics Day program is to help students develop and define their own framework for making ethical decisions so that they may act, not just react, when they find themselves facing ethical dilemmas in the future.

Have you donated your leaf for Langley's Legacy Tree? We just received shipment of all outstanding Legacy Tree leaves, birds, and acorn orders, which will be placed upon the Legacy Tree next week. Thanks to the 528 generous Langley families who've donated a leaf to make the renovation of the first two of Langley's three courtyards possible.
One more courtyard to landscape! Consider helping to "grow" the Legacy Tree and complete the courtyard renovation project by donating a leaf (copper $50, silver $100, gold $200) or bird or acorn ($500). You choose the engraved message. The Legacy Tree -- located across from the school's Main Office--will be a permanent, prominent record of courtyard contributors and a lasting legacy for Langley and your family. Leaves also make great tributes to teachers, friends, coaches, and grads!
Last call for plaque donors! Those who donate $1,000 or more by the end of the month will be included on the Courtyard Benefactor Plaque, which will be adjacent to the Legacy Tree. Your contribution of $1,000 includes your choice of six gold leaves or two birds or acorns.

-
Equity: What does equity mean to me?
-
Inclusion: Are you able to be your authentic self and still be safe and accepted?
Submissions are due Fri, Mar 18 and the exhibit will be held Thurs, Mar 24, beginning at 6 pm. Prizes will be awarded to top three submissions. For details, see the flyer here or go to the PTSA website.

Parents, we need you! The Ethics Day Committee needs your help to facilitate an all-day program for almost 500 Langley seniors on Wed, Mar 16, 8:15 am – 2:30 pm at McLean Bible Church. Please consider volunteering for this rewarding event (friends and neighbors welcome!), no experience needed.
Ethics Day encourages seniors to determine their own ethical framework and equips them with decision-making tools they can use in life after high school when confronting ethical dilemmas. Speakers present situations in three different modules and the volunteers encourage dialogue among the seniors in small-group table discussions.
