In a work session on Monday, the
FCPS School Board discussed Class of 2020 graduation options, summer programming opportunities and considerations in planning for the return to school
in the fall.

The School Board will present its plans for returning in the fall at its June work session.
In the graduation discussion, the board reviewed the results of the
Survey on Graduation Preferences
, found
here
.
In short,
FCPS recommends that each high school creates a virtual Class of 2020 celebration video and provides an on-campus opportunity for individual graduate photo recognition.
If health conditions allow, a face-to-face graduation in the fall will be considered. If health conditions are not conducive in the fall, FCPS will consider scheduling a face-to-face ceremony in the winter or next spring. The School Board is expected to announce its decision shortly after Labor Day regarding a fall graduation.
The covid-19 pandemic has made a huge impact on all of us, but most especially our seniors.
They deserve to be recognized and celebrated for all of their hard work and the contributions they have made to the school and their community.
Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks, as we learn information on how we are celebrating our seniors!

With the abrupt closure of school this year, many events have been cancelled, including Langley’s celebration of its teachers and staff.
This year more than ever,
we wanted to show our appreciation for our dedicated, talented and hard-working professionals.
With the Langley community's generosity,
the PTSA was able to gift each staff member a $35 Amazon gift card.
Many thanks to
Lisa Givens
for coordinating the activity, and ensuring that Langley staff feel our appreciation from afar!

Each year, FCPS requires 12th graders to fill out the FCPS Senior Survey.
The short survey is used to gather data about post-secondary plans, college decisions and scholarships, and is reported to FCPS and VDOE as part of required graduate reporting.
The
deadline is next Fri, May 22,
and only about
half of the senior class has completed the survey so far. Click

Langley welcomes Mr. Joseph Antonucci, who joined LHS this year as the Assistant Director of Bands.
He and
Mr. Doug Martin
, Langley’s Director of Bands, manage three concert ensembles, the Marching Saxons, a jazz band, a percussion ensemble and a flute choir.
Mr. Antonucci began his teaching career at
Walt Whitman MS
in Alexandria, VA. Whitman’s band program was small when he arrived, but under Mr. Antonucci's baton they “added an entire new band to the program and we had pretty good musical success,” he said. During this time, he also worked with the
Westfield HS
marching band and the
Fairfax HS
jazz band.
Mr. Antonucci’s dedication and success was noticed by Mr. Martin, as Langley’s program was in need of a new assistant director. Mr. Antonucci was very happy to join the program.
Working at a high school with a band program as notable as Langley’s had “been my main goal since I became a music ed major ten years ago,” he said.
He started working with Langley students last August, when the marching band rehearses all day for the month before school begins. Mr. Antonucci was in charge of the marching band practices and quickly formed bonds with students during those hours of drills.
The work paid off, as the Marching Saxons won “Superior” ratings at their state marching band assessment competition in October, for a second year in a row.
Mr. Antonucci has a bachelor’s in music ed and master’s in trumpet performance from
George Mason University
. He continues to work as a musician with local performances, and is finishing his second year in a
music doctoral program
at GMU.
Mr. Antonucci has a lot to offer Langley, both as a talented musician and a dedicated teacher.
