saxon service
Saxon Service is next Wed, Oct 30 during Saxon Time in the Langley Cafeteria. Last month, over 325 students participated and this month we are planning for even more! There are several new activities available, so there is an opportunity for every interest
Activities next week will include:
  • Making lunches for people who are homeless
  • Ironing pillowcases and knitting baby blankets
  • Sorting crayons and answering trivia to earn rice for people in 3rd world countries
  • Writing notes to those in the military, children in hospitals and low-income families
  • Reading and reviewing poetry as part of an arts program for incarcerated adults
  • Making art kits for children in hospitals, friendship bracelets, origami cranes, feminine supplies, beads and pet toys
Encourage your student to come earn an hour of service during Saxon Time!
Making dog and cat toys is a popular activity at Saxon Service because it is fun and social! Students work together to cut recycled t-shirts and braid them to make toys for dogs.

Student preferring a more individual activity may enjoy coloring ping-pong balls or using yarn and balls to create toys for cats.

The animal toys are distributed all over the East Coast, but the primary beneficiary of our animal toys is the Animal Welfare League of Arlington , a non-profit organization founded by volunteers in 1944. It provides sheltering and animal control services under a contract with Arlington County and low-cost veterinary assistance.

saxons, did you know …
The American Society of Addiction Medicine released a new definition of addiction after a four-year process involving more than 80 experts. Dr. Michael Miller, who is past president of the Society and oversaw the four-year process wrote, "Many behaviors driven by addiction are real problems and sometimes criminal acts. But the disease is about brains, not drugs. It's about underlying neurology, not outward actions."
