A Message from Sheriff Paul Miyamoto
Dear Friends,

Criminal activity has not gone away during the pandemic. Recently, scammers claiming to work with the San Francisco Sheriff's Office have been preying on the elderly.

Please read the article below on how to recognize this fraud and protect yourself.

On a brighter note, the pandemic has sparked creative, new ways to recognize important causes and celebrate milestones during the month of October. Please enjoy the videos below which honor these important themes:

  • Breast Cancer Awareness Month highlighting our staff’s personal stories of remembrance and triumph over this terrible disease

  • October 31, Halloween, also the last day of daylight savings time. Be sure to carry a flashlight, wear bright clothing and maintain physical distance if you go trick or treating. During the pandemic, costume masks are not a substitute for cloth masks. Before you go to bed, turn your clock an hour back and enjoy an extra hour of sleep.

Stay safe, stay healthy and be well!

P.S. VOTE!
FRAUD ALERT: Scammers Claiming to Work for SFSO Prey on Elderly
The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office has received information that an individual claiming to be from the Federal Reserve and working in partnership with the “San Francisco Sheriff’s Department” is calling members of the public as part of an imposter scam.

The imposter is threatening members of the public with arrest and is providing a phone number to the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office for the victim to call to validate the information given. When the victim calls the provided number, they are transferred to the line of an accomplice crime partner who impersonates a law enforcement officer while directing the victim to provide money to avoid arrest.

The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office does not collect fees of any type over the telephone from members of the public. Those persons who receive a similar phone call are asked to contact local law enforcement by calling emergency dispatch at 1(415) 553-0123 or, in the event of an imminent threat, to dial “9-1-1.”

The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office is committed to protecting and warning community members from the predatory practices of tricksters and thieves who prey upon our city’s most vulnerable populations.

A person’s age or immigration status should never deter you from reporting suspicious activity. The men and women of the Sheriff’s Office will take every measure necessary to protect residents and hold criminals accountable.
