Maintain Vigilance Over Backups

We've certainly written about this before, but it never ceases to be important. Backups are among the most important things in your IT network. Should disaster strike, they will become the backbone of keeping the organization operational in as short a time as is possible.

The best way to ensure your backups are the best they can be is through multiple iterations of backups - this includes cloud options, but also multiple physical backups. Over the course of the past year, many places have gone virtual and have people working remotely. This trend may even continue with more people working remote for longer periods of time. No matter the level of remote access, however, it remains vital that someone is onsite to swap out drives regularly.

Keeping those rotations fresh allows more recent backups to be saved and stored in separate locations. If the swap policy is relaxed and an event like a fire or flood were to occur onsite, it would likely damage the server and the onsite drive, so whenever the most recent drive was taken offsite would be the last local backup available to restore from. Keeping up with your rotation ensures that this copy is as recent as it should be and minimizes data loss (and the associated recovery time needed) in the event of an emergency.

We strive to look out for the best interest of our customers and their procurement in the IT venue. Be it hardware, software or service related, we want to guide you in the most effective manner possible.
