GOOD TIDINGS
The Weekly Newsletter for Park Road Baptist Church
April 15, 2026

I am pretty fast-paced. I move a lot, usually get a lot done in a short amount of time (which is not always a good thing!), but I’ve also been known to engage in some lengthy projects…
For a wedding present, I made Amy a “hope chest” – beautiful walnut cut from her uncle’s property and carving features out of basswood. The next year I gave a full-length dressing mirror, same wood combination and carving features. Year three she got the drawing of a bed to go with this bedroom suit, and… 25 years later, she got the bed! (True story.)
For Christmas 1996 I hand-carved three of those fancy plates that go under plates on the dinner table. (Whose idea was that?!) These chargers were styled with English “chip carving.” There’s an ornamented detail ringing the outside and a monogramed “D” in the center. Amy got the first three plates the year our first child was born. I finished the set of ten… 10 years later. (True story.)
As one old prophet said it: For there is still a vision for the appointed time… If it seems to tarry, wait for it; it will surely come, it will not delay (Habakkuk 2.3). And even if it does delay, most things worth doing are worth waiting for!

In 2003 we started a long-range Visioning process: Commitment Made Real. The leadership group met every week for a year, then there was a church vote, and a building committee that met for a year, and a capital campaign committee that met for a year – and in 2007 we completed the Community Center. We started Visioning again in 2010:Redreaming the Dream – and in 2019 we finalized the renovation of the sanctuary and the creation of Helt Hall.
In 2024 we had a Legacy Gift that prompted a whole new conversation, and today, almost two years after we began envisioning the next chapter at Park Road (a chapter that will continue long after Amy and I are gone), we are ready to share with you what we have “seen” and “heard” – a Vision we believe has God and Park Road Baptist Church written all over it!
Building. Community.
This Sunday, worship will be 40 minutes long (True story!), and we will have a brief presentation. You will hear about five exciting Directives: Spiritual Discovery, Outreach for Growth, Valuing Our Staff, Facilities and Campus Needs, and Mission: Affordable Child Care. You won’t get much detail. We want to whet your appetite. In the coming weeks you’ll have three opportunities to get all the details and to ask all the questions you want to ask.
| |
“Q&A” sessions will be offered:
- Sunday, April 26 – during the Connection Group hour (9:45am in Milford Chapel)
- Wednesday, May 6 – during our “First Wednesday” program (6:00pm in the Community Center)
- Sunday, May 17 – following worship (12:00pm in the Community Center)
| | |
Then on Sunday, May 31, we will have a Called Church Conference, giving you a chance to vote on all that you’ve heard.
Our Vision Team has been listening, asking questions, prompting dialogue, changing direction, moving forward, and listening some more. Now it’s your time. Come Sunday and pick at least one of the Q&A sessions – because we will need everyone on board for Building. Community.
This Vision has been two years in the making. We believe it is well worth the wait. - Russ

Sunday Worship
April 12, 2026
| | | Nearing Completion at Jennifer's House | | One more weekend of work and Jennifer’s house should be completed! We have reserved Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3 to travel once more to Rollins, NC and, hopefully, finish the house. Once again, the Neeriemers are generously making their home available for lodging and food will be provided. There are jobs remaining for both skilled and unskilled workers, so please come and join us for the weekend. Let Russ or Dan know that you’re coming so that we can plan accordingly. Thanks! | | Ways to Pray: Creativity as Spiritual Practice | | |
The Park Road University series, “Ways to Pray: Creativity as Spiritual Practice,” begins Sunday, April 26. Led by Missy Solomon, this series invites participants to explore creative, hands-on approaches to prayer beyond words. Through simple and engaging practices, attendees will discover new ways to deepen their spiritual life—no artistic experience required, just an open heart and willingness to try something new.
Workshops will be held Sunday afternoons (1:00–3:30 PM) on April 26, May 24, July 19, and August 16 in Room 503 of the Community Center. The first half hour includes an optional shared lunch, followed by a two-hour workshop.
Participants may bring their own lunch or join a group order from Jason’s Deli (details provided upon RSVP). A $10 contribution per session is suggested to cover materials (You can pay cash or check the afternoon of the workshop).
Please RSVP for the April 26 session by Wednesday, April 22 to revmissysolomon@gmail.com or info@parkroadbaptist.org.
| | Deacon of the Week: Ken Reynolds | | |
I’ve called PRBC my church home for 26 years—and have been coming for nearly 29. It took me a few years to realize where I truly belonged, but once I did, I jumped in wholeheartedly. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving on and leading a variety of committees, including Music & Worship, Decorations, the COVID Task Force, and the 75th Anniversary Food & Decorations Team. This is my third rotation as a deacon, and during my second term, I served as vice chair and chair of the deaconate, followed by chair of the Ministry Council. One of the ministries closest to my heart is cooking and serving lunch at Roof Above. Outside of church, I work for Bojangles Restaurants, Inc. as the Executive Director of the Bojangles Foundation. When I’m not working or serving, you’ll usually find me taking care of my dog, working in the yard, or at the gym.
| | Congratulations to Newlyweds Ms. Tammy and Lee | | | | We are pleased to share that Ms. Tammy, Child Care Development Center Co-Director, and her fiancé, Lee, were united in marriage last week in Panama City Beach, Florida. Having met at their church over 15 years ago, the couple shares a passion for the beach, camping, and bluegrass music. We are thrilled for them and wish to offer our congratulations to the newlyweds as they celebrate in Jamaica! | | |
Join us for Thirsty Third Thursday, tomorrow, April 16 at 6 p.m. at Rhino Market and Deli in South Park.

Join us on Wednesday, May 6, for our First Wednesday meal and time of fellowship around the tables. Dinner will be served at 5:30 PM, offering a chance to slow down, share a meal, and enjoy being together as a church family.
As part of the evening, we will also host one of our upcoming Vision Q&A sessions at 6:00 PM in the Community Center. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the vision for Park Road, hear about key ministry priorities, and ask questions as we look toward the future together.
Please make your dinner reservation by Tuesday, May 5 at noon by emailing info@parkroadbaptist.org, or sign up in Helt Hall on Sunday.
| | Fun Food Friday - Join Us in May! | | |
Our next Fun Food Friday will be on May 1st at The Painted Rooster in Plaza Midwood. We will meet at the church at 11:15 a.m. to carpool together or you can meet us at the restaurant at 11:30 a.m. After lunch, we’ll head over to Austin Seagraves’ home to visit her backyard plant nursery. You may want to save a little room in your budget, as Austin will have plants available for purchase!
Please RSVP by emailing the church office at info@parkroadbaptist.org or by signing up in Helt Hall. We hope you’ll join us for another fun outing!
| | Thank You for Your Generosity | | |
We are grateful to share that our church collected $4,300 for the Joe Martin ALS March Mission Offering. This foundation was chosen in part because of its meaningful connection to our church family, making this gift especially significant. Thank you for your generosity, prayers, and support—your giving is a powerful expression of love and compassion, and it will make a difference in the lives of those impacted by ALS.
