September 11th, 2026

Hello Friends & Neighbors,

I am grateful to be able to reach you through this medium.

Community engagement is at the forefront of my mission to provide resources, events, and support for our residents and businesses. My motto of "Putting You First...Keeps Us First" will continue to be my guide. I look forward to engaging with you more in the future!  Please take a look at the various events, projects, programs and share with your contacts.

September is Hunger Action Month

No family should have to choose between buying groceries and paying for other essentials. September is Hunger Action Month, a reminder of the importance of coming together to help our neighbors access nutritious food.

I am grateful for our ongoing partnership with Farm Share, whose support helps our office bring food distributions directly to the community. Together with our volunteers and community partners, we are helping families put food on the table and stretching household budgets further.

Be on the lookout for another food distribution toward the end of the year! My office will share the date, location, and registration details in an upcoming update. In the meantime, I encourage you to support a local food drive, volunteer, or share available resources with someone who may need them.

Registration Is Now Open!

I invite Broward County residents to join me for our Free Tree Giveaway on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 8 AM to noon at Miramar Pineland Park, located at 3600 S. University Drive in Miramar. Each Broward County household may receive one free tree and choose from five available varieties: soursop, mango, June plum, sweetsop, or the native Simpson stopper. Trees will be distributed while supplies last, and proof of Broward County residency is required. Register today and help us expand Broward County’s tree canopy, strengthen our environment, and create a greener community for generations to come!

Save the Date!

I invite you to join me for the 7th Annual Black British Heritage Celebration on Saturday, October 24, 2026—an unforgettable evening honoring the achievements and contributions of the Black British community, featuring dinner, an awards presentation, and live entertainment.

Division Spotlight: Elderly and Veterans Services

Helping Older Adults Access Nutritious Meals

In recognition of Hunger Action Month, I am highlighting Broward County’s Elderly and Veterans Services Division and its support for older adults facing food insecurity. Through its partnership with the Area Agency on Aging of Broward County, the division helps support temporary, emergency home-delivered meals for eligible seniors.

Access to nutritious food helps older adults maintain their health, independence, and quality of life. The Area Agency on Aging also connects eligible residents with ongoing home-delivered meals and community dining locations that offer nourishment and social connection.

If you or an older adult you know needs food assistance, I encourage you to call 954-745-9779 to learn about available meal programs and eligibility. Sharing this resource could make a meaningful difference for a neighbor or loved one.

Watch Out for King Tides

The fall season of King Tides is upon us, with areas along coastal and inland Broward County subject to flooding associated with the unusually high tides. Drivers are advised to avoid flooded roads, as deep water can hide hazardous debris. Boaters should also prepare for significantly lower clearance levels under fixed bridges during King Tides, which typically peak 1.5 to 2 hours before and after scheduled high times.

See when highest tides are expected and help Broward County document the floods.

Calling All Landlords

Broward County’s Project HomeAgain Program provides landlords with the opportunity to fill their vacant units with Broward County residents in immediate need of housing. There is no fee required and move-in costs are covered for eligible tenants.

Learn more about gaining new tenants at the free 2026 Project HomeAgain Landlord Recruitment and Appreciation Breakfast being held on Thursday, November 5 at the Long Key Natural Area & Nature Center in Davie.

International Coastal Cleanup

As part of the Ocean Conservancy’s 41st Annual International Coastal Cleanup, Broward County’s Natural Resources Division is organizing a beach cleanup on Saturday, September 19, from 9 AM to noon at 14 locations around the community. Last year, more than 1,800 volunteers countywide collected over 5,000 pounds of trash! This is a great opportunity for residents to help keep Broward’s environment beautiful, and a chance for students to earn service hours. Registration is not required but is encouraged. Pre-registered volunteers get a free T-shirt or hat, while supplies last. Learn More.

Flashback Friday: Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

This Flashback Friday, I’m looking back at a Hispanic Heritage Month initiative in Miramar where we partnered with local restaurants to provide free lunches to residents during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a creative way to celebrate Hispanic culture, support our community and remind us that our diversity is one of our greatest strengths.

Community Engagements

North Perry Airport Community Advisory Committee Reinstated

I was pleased to attend the first 2026 meeting of the reinstated North Perry Airport Community Advisory Committee, marking an important step in strengthening communication between residents, airport stakeholders, the Broward County Aviation Department, and the County Commission. The committee was reinstated following my recommendation to the Commission that this important community forum be brought back. I look forward to continued dialogue focused on safety, transparency, accountability, and ensuring the voices of our surrounding communities are heard.

HOA Meeting - Washington Park Community Center in Hollywood

I was pleased to attend an HOA community meeting at Washington Community Park in Hollywood, where I had the opportunity to connect with residents, listen to their concerns, and discuss issues important to the neighborhood. As we often do at community meetings, our office also brought goodie bags filled with helpful Broward County information and resources so residents could stay informed and connected to available services. These conversations are an important part of making sure our communities continue to have a voice.

OIC of South Florida Middle Class Summit

I was pleased to attend OIC of South Florida’s Middle Class Summit, joining community, business, and civic leaders for an important conversation centered on economic mobility, workforce development, and expanding opportunities for the communities we serve. Creating pathways to meaningful careers and long-term economic stability requires strong partnerships across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. I appreciated the opportunity to connect with leaders who share that commitment and to hear ideas focused on strengthening our workforce and helping more families build a prosperous future. Thank you to OIC of South Florida for bringing our community together for these meaningful conversations!
