CHAMP FLIGHT STATE CHAMPION

🏆 Spruill Claims Championship Flight at the 2026 State Final

The 2026 Tidewater & Richmond State Final delivered a dramatic finish in the Championship Flight at Kilmarlic Golf Club, with Tidewater’s Matthew Spruill and Dennis Nelson battling all the way to the end.

Nelson entered Sunday with the advantage after firing an impressive 2-over 74 in the opening round. Spruill began the final round four shots back after a 78, but he saved his best golf for when it mattered most.

Spruill came charging on Sunday.

He posted a 1-over 73, the lowest final-round score in the Championship Flight, to erase Nelson’s four-shot advantage. Nelson battled his way to a 77, leaving both Tidewater players tied at 151 (+7) after 36 holes.

Matthew Spruill ultimately captured the Championship Flight title, completing an impressive comeback at the State Final.

Richmond’s Derek Lee stayed right in the fight, posting rounds of 76-77 for 153 (+9) and finishing only two shots behind the leaders. Michael Mitchell followed at 156, while Tidewater Points Champion Mike Hartselle rounded out the top five at 158.

For Spruill, the victory capped a tremendous closing stretch to the 2026 season. Just one week earlier, he won the Championship Flight at The Smithfield Classic, shooting a 76 at Cypress Creek. Now he adds an even bigger trophy to the collection — 2026 State Final Championship Flight Champion.

A FLIGHT STATE CHAMPION

🏆 Zane Sanford Rallies to Win A Flight at the 2026 State Final

Zane Sanford saved his best golf for the final round of the 2026 Tidewater & Richmond State Final at Kilmarlic Golf Club, putting together a tremendous Sunday performance to capture the A Flight Championship.

Sanford opened the weekend with a 78, leaving him three shots behind first-round leader Donny Marshall and two behind Mark Hanna. With several players packed near the top of the leaderboard, the A Flight title was wide open heading into the final 18 holes.

Then Sanford took control.

He fired a 1-over-par 73 on Sunday, the best final-round score in A Flight, to finish at 151 (+7) for the championship. His strong closing round gave him a three-shot victory over Richmond’s Jordan Flemer, who posted rounds of 79-75 for a 154 total.

Tidewater’s Bradley Miller also made a Sunday charge, improving five shots with a 76 to finish tied for third at 157 with Mark Hanna. Donny Marshall rounded out the top five at 158.

But Sunday belonged to Sanford. After starting the day chasing the leaders, he delivered when the pressure was on and turned a three-shot deficit into a three-shot victory.

B FLIGHT STATE CHAMPION

🏆 Trey Richardson Charges Back to Capture B Flight at the 2026 State Final

The B Flight Championship came down to the wire at the 2026 Tidewater & Richmond State Final at Kilmarlic Golf Club, and Richmond’s Trey Richardson delivered the comeback he needed on Sunday.

Richardson opened the tournament with an 83, five shots behind first-round leader Jose Gomez of Tidewater, who put himself in great position with an opening 78. With Bill Turnbull at 81 and Tim Matthews at 82, there were plenty of players within striking distance entering the final round.

Richardson made his move.

He fired a 79 on Sunday, the lowest final-round score among the top contenders, to finish at 162 (+18). Gomez battled throughout the final round but closed with an 85, finishing just one shot back at 163.

Tidewater’s Bill Turnbull was right there as well, posting 81-83 for 164 and finishing only two shots behind Richardson. Richmond’s Stephen Abernathy made a strong Sunday push with an 80 to finish fourth at 165, while David Hotze finished fifth at 167.

It was one of the closest finishes of the State Final: just three shots separated the top four.

Richardson began Sunday five shots off the lead. Eighteen holes later, he had erased the deficit and walked away as the champion.

C FLIGHT STATE CHAMPION

🏆 Mike Hale Goes Low on Sunday to Win C Flight at the 2026 State Final

What a final round for Mike Hale.

The C Flight Championship at the 2026 Tidewater & Richmond State Final at Kilmarlic Golf Club featured one of the biggest Sunday moves of the weekend, as Hale erased a five-shot deficit with a spectacular closing round.

Shaun Jackson set the pace on Saturday, opening with a strong 78. Hale began the championship with an 83, tied with John Frye and five shots off Jackson’s lead.

Then came Sunday.

Hale caught fire, firing a 2-over-par 74 — a remarkable nine-shot improvement from his opening round. His 74 was easily the lowest final-round score among the C Flight leaders and propelled him to a two-day total of 157 (+13).

Jackson finished with an 84 for a 162 total, giving Hale an impressive five-shot victory.

Behind them, Jeffreys Williams and John Frye tied for third at 167. Tom Fitzsimmons and Jamall Garrett finished tied for fifth at 172.

But nobody could match Hale on Sunday.

He started the final round five shots behind. He finished it five shots ahead — a 10-shot swing over 18 holes.

D FLIGHT STATE CHAMPION

🏆 Jon Bucenell Takes Control to Win D Flight at the 2026 State Final

The D Flight Championship belonged to Jon Bucenell, who put together two steady rounds and finished strong to capture the title at the 2026 Tidewater & Richmond State Final at Kilmarlic Golf Club.

The flight was wide open after Saturday. Will Spittle held the opening-round lead with a 91, while Jim O’Neill sat just one shot back at 92. Bucenell and Willie Hughes were only two shots off the pace after matching 93s, with David Faggert right behind at 94.

Sunday changed everything.

Bucenell delivered an 89, the only sub-90 final round among the D Flight leaders. His four-shot improvement gave him a two-day total of 182 (+38) and vaulted him from two shots back into the top spot.

David Faggert also played solid golf on Sunday, following his opening 94 with a 91 to finish second at 185, three shots behind the champion.

Richmond’s Will Graves made a strong move with a final-round 92 to finish tied for third at 190 alongside Jim O’Neill.

With the championship on the line, Bucenell was the player who separated himself from the field. He began Sunday chasing the lead and walked off Kilmarlic with a three-shot victory and the D Flight State Final Championship.
