This month, see how we’re advancing safety, healing, and empowerment across Delaware. We’re celebrating Elizabeth Lopez for over eight years of service supporting survivors through our SARC helpline, and sharing ways to get involved through our Juneteenth T-shirt vote, Resilience Fund, and community workshops. We’re also presenting on disability voting rights, strengthening housing stability, honoring volunteers at our Home-Life Management Center, and celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by recognizing leaders who helped shape our mission to eliminate racism and empower women.

Celebrating a Champion for Survivors

We’re proud to share that Elizabeth Lopez, a dedicated Sexual Assault Response Advocate (SARA) with YWCA Delaware, received the 2026 Crime Victims’ Rights Week Outstanding Volunteer Award from the Delaware Victims' Rights Task Force.

Honored for her compassion and commitment, Elizabeth has volunteered with our Sexual Assault Response Center (SARC) helpline for over eight years, providing critical support, resources, and guidance to survivors across the state.

Since 2018, Elizabeth has contributed more than 14,000 hours—often overnight and on weekends—helping thousands take steps toward safety, healing, and hope.

The Resilience Fund is Here and the Moment is Now

The Resilience Fund at YWCA Delaware has officially launched, and momentum is already building as our community comes together to support a $1.5 million goal focused on safety, healing, and opportunity.

As funding landscapes shift, this effort helps protect uninterrupted access to safe housing, 24/7 sexual assault and domestic violence crisis response, and economic empowerment services for women and families across Delaware.

This campaign is powered by people who believe in the priority of helping women and families. You can be part of it by making a gift and simply spreading the word—because every conversation brings us closer to impact.

Our next Resilience Fund Community Gathering will take place in Rehoboth Beach on June 25, and we welcome anyone in Sussex County who wants to learn more and get involved.

Let's Talk: Voting and the Disability Community

Join us on Monday, June 15, at 12 noon via Zoom for an important community conversation on voting accessibility for people with disabilities in Delaware. Moderated by Nina Kegelman,Voting Rights Advocate, CLASI Delaware, this discussion will explore barriers voters with disabilities continue to face, from polling place accessibility and transportation challenges to gaps in ADA enforcement and assistive technology access.

Panelists include Emmanuel Jenkins, Community Relations Officer, Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council, Carol King-Ries, Member, National Federation of the Blind of Delaware, and Heidi Mizell, Certified Family Peer Specialist and Family Navigator, Autism, Delaware. Together, they will examine what’s working, what still needs to change, and how Delaware can ensure every eligible voter can cast a ballot with dignity, independence, and confidence.

McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act Workshop

We’re grateful to Angeleatha McAdo and Elizabeth Santillo from the Christiana School District for leading an informative workshop on the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act at our Home-Life Management Center.

This important law protects the educational rights of students experiencing homelessness—ensuring school stability, immediate enrollment, transportation, and access to essential resources. After the workshop, Angeleatha and Elizabeth raffled gift baskets and gift cards for our clients. We’re thankful for their partnership and for being a trusted resource for families navigating housing instability.

A Cleaner, Brighter Space Thanks to ChristianaCare

We’re deeply grateful to the compassionate volunteer team from ChristianaCare who dedicated their time and energy to a deep spring cleaning at our Home-Life Management Center. From scrubbing walls and organizing the shed to helping prepare our new greenhouse, their efforts helped create a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming space for the individuals and families we serve.

Volunteers play an essential role in maintaining a supportive environment for clients in emergency and transitional housing, and we are truly thankful for their continued partnership and care.
