Green Energy Grift News, Amara Annexation Approved, Flying-W Ranch Water Tower Lawsuit Dismissed, and More!

Here are some of the stories we are following this week. Connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram for up-to-the-minute news.

  • We were told “affordable housing” was a crisis, and that government should use taxpayer dollars to help the working poor. So, why is Colorado using taxpayer funds to subsidize rent for middle-income families?

  • Colorado Springs Utilities has a five-year plan that would increase your utility costs 45% by 2030. The government loves their 5-year plans. This is all to pay for Jared Polis’ legally mandated “green energy” fantasy. Can you afford an increase like this? Will blackouts and other energy restrictions cost lives?

  • As usual, your humble watchdogs at Springs Taxpayer United were ahead of the curve on the dire impacts of “green energy”. Colorado Springs City Council members used the words "demand side management" 4 years ago. The goal has been to get you to use less energy, not be comfortable in your own home. Here’s what we wrote back in 2020.

  • Also in local energy news this week, the demolition of the Martin Drake power plant, which delivered affordable energy to customers for decades, continues.

  • Colorado Springs City Council approved the massive Amara annexation effort south of the city. Expect thousands of homes to be built here, and even more water restrictions once they are built.

  • Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade presented his monthly address this week. As is our custom, we recorded this for you, and it’s available here.

  • Officials in Broomfield, Colorado are considering a 50% increase in utility rates to maintain aging utility infrastructure.

  • A nonprofit linked to Governor Jared Polis, which also helped him promote the Proposition HH disaster, violated campaign finance laws.

  • Some residents in Security-Widefield are unhappy about road resurfacing projects and the quality of the work.

  • Apparently it’s Auto Theft Month. We can’t wait for “Put People Who Steal Cars in Jail” month.

  • Mountain Metro public transit in our area wants to expand service. Do you think this is beneficial?

  • A new “green energy” carbon credit scam will be forced onto businesses so that the government can loot them in a fun new way.

  • Jefferson County will be attempting to take TABOR refunds from citizens again this year. As a reminder, Representative Brittany Petterson and her politically connected husband got well paid by taxpayer dollars to push this effort. The grift never ends.

  • As expected, a judge has found a way to dismiss a lawsuit aimed at Colorado Springs Utilities. Flying-W Ranch neighbors were suing over a water tower built in their neighborhood that was larger than plans allowed.

  • Apartment construction in Colorado Springs is slowing. Have they actually overbuilt apartments in their zeal to reward developers and also create infill everywhere?

  • Colorado pays out very few claims for automobile damage from potholes. Have any of you ever filed a damage claim due to potholes? How did it turn out?

  • If you would like to help support us in our mission as government watchdogs by becoming a Newsletter Sponsor, we are offering two sponsorships for each weekly newsletter, at the nominal cost of $100 each. Funds raised from these sponsorship opportunities will help us to keep looking out for taxpayers.

Here are some upcoming meetings in the area. We hope you can attend one or more! If there are other public meetings you’d like to see announced here, please drop us a line. We are happy to include them in an upcoming newsletter. These might be government-related, candidate, or elected official meetings. Thanks!
