Greetings!

We have an exciting and busy week coming up!!

The VYC Championship race is at Central Park this Saturday. We will be scoring the teams and awarding the top 3 teams after each race. Please plan to stay a little longer. All athletes will also receive a medal, and the top 3 athletes will get a trophy. The top 8 individuals and top 3 teams will be called up to the awards podium about 20 minutes after each race. Each age group depends on all athletes to score for the team!!

When the Coaches talks about having fun, this is it!! Please make sure you stay and cheer all the team on and be ready to take lots of pictures on the podium. Please note that the Sub Gremlins will race first this week!!

Speaking of that I am looking for a parent with a truck to help me pick up the podium on Friday afternoon and put it together at the park. I will have a truck full of start line stuff. We will meet at our storage on Friday late afternoon and then take it to the park and assemble at the park. Please let me know if you can help.

If you look on the cross country page at the bottom of the page is a "Ranking File" If your athletes has been coming in the top 30 of the races they may want to considerer joining the all star team. We take the top athletes from all the VYC teams and form A,B and some times C teams to compete in the Junior Olympic competition that could end up at the Jr. Olympics in Lafayette Lousianna Teams must qualify through a series of races. There will be an additional team fee and travel expenses.

Coaches Corner

Hello Team,

We’ve made it to the final week of regular season!! Congratulations… but not quite yet… let’s have a great week first, and then we’ll celebrate!

Parents, you are all raising kids so if you haven’t noticed yet, you will start to notice that the older your kids get the faster the years go by… Make sure you do your best to stop and smell the roses along the way. 😊 And speaking of smelling the roses, I missed some as this season has just flown by… and what a season it has been!

Newbies coming on the scene doing amazing, the old-bies continuing to work hard and improve, new friendships made, and we’ve all experienced again why XC is such an amazing sport and why Storm is THE BEST TEAM ON THE PLANET!

Saturday was Pierce College 2.0 and there were again a lot of great races out there! I also heard of some disappointing races out there so let me help set your minds up for this week with a few points and pointers:

  1. Racing has its ups and downs, and EVERYONE experiences a lackluster or even bad race.
  2. One race doesn’t define you!
  3. If you had a great race Saturday, pick something you did that made it amazing!
  4. If you weren’t happy with your race Saturday, pick something you didn’t do, or something you could improve on and fix it for this week!
  5. If you are tracking your overall conference place, remember only your best 4 races count towards your average place.
  6. Find your 4 best and take that average!
  7. I wouldn’t expect last Saturday to be your best race, or even one of your best…
  8. We want this coming Saturday to be your best of the season!

Let’s get to this week, the final week of the regular season.

We’ll have our final week of taper to get you the freshest legs to race your best! The weather will be great, and we’ll hope the rain is finished before practice Thursday so we can get a full week of training. IF we have to cancel practice Thursday, we’ll send out a workout to run on your own.

Here are a few tips for this week:

  1. Stay healthy:
  2. remember the snotty nose friends and siblings: STAY AWAY FROM THEM
  3. start taking some immunity, like emergen-c, every day.
  4. and keep off the skateboards, jumping bikes, climbing trees, trampolines, wrestling around… you know all the things that kids love to do… just hold off for 1 week. 😊
  5. Eat healthy:
  6. Keep up with chicken and pasta, and vegetables, and fruit, and drink plenty of water…
  7. Train smart:
  8. Don’t overdo it this week!
  9. Follow the workouts and run them as prescribed. YOU AREN’T GOING TO GET FASTER THIS WEEK BY DOING MORE OR RUNNING FASTER THAN YOU SHOULD!
  10. Think smart:
  11. It is a great exercise to train your mind to be confident in racing.
  12. Think this week of a PR at Central Park! We already ran the course earlier in the season so this Saturday: EVERYONE PR’s!!
  13. You should all know that the training you do is tough and when you complete it, that makes YOU TOUGH! Take that training and be confident in your race.

                                                             i.     Be confident to push harder in the middle of the race, instead of taking it easier!

ii.     Be confident to kick harder at the end of the race, and don’t let anyone pass you!

iii.     And be confident to run a little harder at the start of the race, keeping in mind you still have to run your race!

  1. When you execute those 3 recommendations: YOUR PR WILL COME!!

This week we’ll run a little less again, and we’ll include a workout running your racecourse for Saturday.

Thank you for an amazing season!

Thank you coaches for being amazing leaders!

Let’s finish this season off in Storm fashion: with PR’s and Team Trophies!

See you tonight!
