Dear Independence Families and Community Members,
On behalf of the Independence Local Schools Board of Education, our students, and our entire staff, thank you for your continued support of our schools through the passage of the district's 1.25-mill permanent improvement levy renewal on November 3.
The passage of this renewal represents more than continued financial support for our schools. It reflects the strong relationship between our district and the community we are so fortunate to serve. It reminds us that education matters in Independence and that our community remains committed to giving our children the best opportunities to learn, grow, and succeed.
This five-year renewal will continue to generate approximately $750,000 annually to support the maintenance, repair, and improvement of our school buildings, facilities, and other permanent needs. Because this is a renewal of an existing levy, it does not represent a new tax.
I also recognize that supporting our schools is an investment our residents make, and I never take that for granted. We understand the responsibility that comes with your trust, and we remain committed to being thoughtful, transparent, and responsible stewards of the resources you provide while maintaining facilities that support student learning, safety, and success.
One of the things I have come to appreciate most about Independence is the incredible pride this community takes in its schools. Our students benefit every day from families, residents, staff, local businesses, and community partners who genuinely care about their success.
Strong schools and strong communities go hand in hand, and Independence is a wonderful example of that partnership.
As we look to the future, important work still lies ahead. We will continue listening, collaborating, planning, and making decisions that reflect our commitment to students and our district's long-term success.
Thank you for believing in our schools, supporting our students, and being part of what makes Independence such a special place. I also want to thank our teachers, staff, administrators, and Board of Education members for their continued dedication to our district.
Together, we will continue Cultivating a Legacy of Excellence for today's students and generations to come.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Kelli Cogan
Superintendent
