MAYOR'S UPDATE
From the desk of Mayor Rika Levin
We thank Green Ossining for delivering yet another amazing program for Earth Day (Week) and hope that everyone in the community had a chance to partake in the festivities, online resources, tours, and education platforms. Many of the programs were recorded so that you have an opportunity to review anything that you missed. On Sunday, I participated with Senators Reiclin-Melnick and Harkham and Assemblywoman Galef in an interesting forum regarding local politics, legislation, and the environment.
On Saturday, on behalf of the Board of Trustees and with members of the community, Trustee White and I joined Historian Joyce Sharrock-Cole at the honorary street naming for Barrington Anthony Walker-Davidson. Young Barrington was a third-generation Jamaican immigrant to the Village of Ossining and grew up on North Malcolm Street with his five siblings. He loved competitive sports and participated in wrestling and football as part of the Ossining Recreation Department – and always displayed great sportsmanship. Barrington was also an active member of a local Ossining chapter of the Cub Scouts. He was an incredible young man that showed a level of compassion and kindness beyond his years. He, unfortunately, lost his life at the young age of ten – and we are pleased to celebrate him with the honorary street naming of Barrington Anthony Walker-Davidson Way. On that same day, we also honored the 90th anniversary of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in our community with a proclamation.
Yesterday I had an opportunity to hear from many community stakeholders about various programs and issues regarding equity, brought to us by the Ossining Equity task force. I encourage everyone in the community to become more actively involved in these initiatives.
On Friday, April 30 at 8:15 am, the Village and Town of Ossining will be hosting an Arbor Day Tree Planting Celebration at Nelson Sitting Park with invited guests. Arbor Day 2021 marks the first year that the Village and Town of Ossining celebrate the Tree City distinction together. The Village received this designation for the first time in 2020, while the Town celebrates its 21st year. This event will be held rain or shine.
For the Work Session this week, the Village Board will be discussing several exciting items.

We will be welcoming Ossining Fire Department members to discuss the OFD Venturing Crew, a wonderful youth mentoring program. We will also be hearing more from Village Staff and the consultants about the Village’s Mobility and Parking Study. We will be discussing the Comprehensive Plan/Zoning Changes. Lastly, Chief Sylvester will join Corporation Council Stuart Kahan to revisit Proposed Local Law #4 regarding Towing.
