BOEC's Inspirations
Stories of the BOEC
September 13, 2023

Dear Friend of BOEC,
We’ve made it to mid-September and are looking back on what was a truly memorable spring and summer filled with great Wilderness programs, a new and shiny intern class, and amazing BOEC fundraisers. We appreciate you all taking this journey with us and are excited to recap some of the fun in this month’s issue of BOEC’s Inspirations Newsletter.
We are excited to introduce you all to The Woods Project (TWP), an organization out of Houston, Texas which serves disadvantaged youth, providing them with the opportunity to get out into locations they may never have thought possible to learn new skills, face personal challenges, and gain confidence along the way. This summer TWP chose BOEC as a partner on an epic adventure down the Green River in Utah and we look forward to their return next year.
August marked the 14th Annual Tee It Up Golf Scramble which was another great day on the course raising over $70,000 for BOEC’s adaptive programs. We are so grateful to all the golfers, sponsors, partners, and volunteers who helped to make this event the success that it was. Please read on below for more great news about the event and don’t forget to save the date for next year!
We often say that it is the people who make BOEC special, from the interns who come to BOEC, both summer and winter, our staff who give so much of themselves every day for our students, BOEC’s board, and volunteers who help make this organization what it is. This month we are excited to introduce you to two very special members of the BOEC family, Ellen McAleese, Development Coordinator, and Winnie Cooke, our new Marketing and Event Coordinator.
As we navigate into another fall and winter and look forward to seeing more deserving participants and families come through our doors to experience the gift of outdoor adventure, we do so knowing that it takes a village to do what we do and we thank you all for your ongoing support and friendship.
Warmly,

A Summer BOEC Adventure
with The Woods Project
|

“I think one of the most memorable moments for the students was when we visited Arches National Park and they got to climb around and explore nature's miraculous architecture. The group, as a whole, really enjoyed exploration in both a physical sense, but also in the way they engaged their minds. We had a lot of deep conversations submerged in the deep canyon walls. This course was definitely a transformative experience for us all and I cannot wait to further partner with The Woods Project for more adventures in the future.” Summer BOEC Intern Skizzi Huffman shares, while discussing The Woods Project ten day adventure through the Labyrinth Canyon on the Green River in Utah.

It's the People Who Make BOEC Special:

Imagine rowing across the water in harmony with your crew, moving towards the same goal, enjoying the tranquil beauty of nature around you, and feeling the water against your oar. Ellen McAleese, Development Coordinator at Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center, likens rowing to the teamwork, dedication, camaraderie, connection with nature, and shared sense of reward and achievement in helping others that permeates the culture within the BOEC.

Generosity Spotlight:
Reflecting on the Success of Our 14th Annual Tee It Up Golf Scramble with Gratitude to Vail Resorts EpicPromise
|
|
In 2023, the Tee It Up Golf Scramble celebrated its 14th year bringing fun to the greens. This year's event successfully raised over $70,000 in gross proceeds, which will directly benefit BOEC's adaptive outdoor programming initiatives. A special thanks goes out to our sponsors, golfers, volunteers, and BOEC staff, for making all of this possible. This year, we wanted to specifically highlight the organization that we could not run this event without - Vail Resorts EpicPromise and the Keystone Ranch golf and banquet teams.
