Connecting a Commerce Community

The most compelling and successful business communities have variety, as well as a sense of purpose and service, and a lot of professional generosity. One of my favorite things about leading our Chamber is that I get to see this up close and personal... including these very recent examples:

+ Putting out a request to support a new member in need of referrals to get things done for their franchise site, and getting great responses - in just minutes.

+ Having a retail member offer their Sip and Shop fundraising events to all our non-profit members...

+ Brainstorming "foot traffic" ideas with members who have invested their plans and hopes in locating in one of our villages.

+ Visiting one of the many organizations that serve those in need our communities - from kids to seniors - to learn about their programs and possible partnering opportunities, and literally feeling the joy and enthusiasm of their campers and those there for nutritious food.

+ Getting to spread the word about the events, resources, and opportunities created by the teams from our municipalities, our elected officials, and County's small business resources. There is so much accessible support for organizations and entrepreneurs right here. Our congressman, George Latimer, even spoke from the house floor about the role of Chambers ... and then placed his remarks in the Congressional Record!

+ Celebrating and supporting the businesses opening in the coming weeks and months. (Watch this space for announcements of grand openings!)

The bottom line: this edition of our newsletter is full of events created by our members and future members - please consider participating and supporting those that work for your organization. Note that September 10 will be a very busy day ... three great things to choose from!

Back-to-school supply giveaways for area students are such a great help for many.

KINGS Charitable Foundation will provide backpacks full of supplies, and host a giveaway event with pizza and ice cream this coming Thursday, Aug 21 @ 4pm at St Peter's Episcopal Church (corner Pearl St & Westchester Ave.) First come first served; one backpack per child. Email g.guerin@kingscapitalgroup.com if you can quickly donate school supplies.

Then, on Tuesday, August 26, the News 12 Backpack Giveaway @ Port Chester Middle School organized by the Community Partners Committee goes from 10:30am - 12:30pm. Students can pick up supplies and try some fun activities, while parents and caregivers learn about helpful resources.

Both of these organizations and their generous donors and partners are helping local kids to go into the school year feeling ready and confident.

You + your employees can help feed 150,000 people!
