I'm celebrating two milestone anniversaries this month.
#1. My 10th Kauai Anniversary. Ten years ago, on October 1, 2013, I moved from California to Kauai. I'll talk more about this "move-a-versary" in the article below.
#2. Disney's 100th Anniversary
On October 16, 1923, brothers Walt and Roy Disney founded the Disney Brothers Studio. Disney parks throughout the world are celebrating this 100th anniversary.
I am a huge Disney fan. My best friend Patti and I had Disneyland annual passes for many years. This old photo shows us with our favorite character.
My harp store in Glendale, California, was only a few miles from the Disney Studios in Burbank. I visited there several times in the early 1990s as I was getting permission to publish my 76 Disney Songs book. One day, Blake Neely, the Supervisor of Print Publications, said something like this to me: "My employees spend all day approving arrangements of Disney music, but they never get to hear the final products. Would you be willing to do a concert for our workers?" And so, Paul Baker, who was teaching at my store, and I took our harps to the Studio and performed in the foyer for the employees. We played 16 Disney songs, including two of Paul's arrangements. We also discussed harp pedals and levers and how they are notated in the music. It was so much fun!
In honor of Mickey Mouse and the entire cast of Disney characters, this month's sale includes all of my arrangements of Disney songs.
Happy anniversary to Walt, Mickey, and me!
Sylvia
