She will serve two years as president, leading the 16-member APA Board of Directors in governing the association, setting strategic goals, and elevating the importance of planning across the U.S.

Annette Miller

Founder & CEO, EQT by Design

Annette's career spans decision-making roles across state and local government and as an executive in the private sector. She brings 25 years of strong professional policy and analytic skills, and a wide network of community, government, and business relationships, especially with Dane County’s diverse populations.

Annette launched EQT By Design to focus on developing diverse, inclusive, sustainable strategies in public engagement, equitable community development projects, and organizational cultural change management. EQT by Design does this work by engaging the community in equity centered efforts, disrupting and changing inequitable policies, systems, and structures, while consulting and modeling, to provide concrete action steps to increase impact and facilitate change.

We're very excited to have Angela and Annette joining us as keynote speakers this year. And - they have both agreed to lead sessions. Check out the agenda!

UW-Milwaukee needs your help

The planning program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is currently preparing to be reviewed for accreditation by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB). The APA-Wisconsin Chapter has an important part to play in this review.

PAB values the input of the professional community in the accreditation process; therefore, it provides two opportunities for the members of the chapter to participate: through an in-person meeting with the Site Visit Team; and through the submission of written comments.

PAB is requesting consolidated written comments from the membership. Please see the cover letter and survey guide on the website for further details. Your chapter’s comments are due via email to Jaclyn Hade by September 16, 2024.

Three Things to Know About New HUD FFRMS Rule (floods.org)

The issue here is that the state floodplain development standard allows for Basements/Crawlspaces to be at BFE for new structures. What this rule states is that the lowest floor including basement/crawlspace needs to be 2’ above BFE for any FHA loan. This really needs to get out to those involved in community development so that it is incorporated into any planned development within the floodplain. I think most communities avoid development within the floodplain, but some communities don’t have a choice. At this time, this rule only impacts new constructions.
