Painting the Portrait in Oil Workshop

Instructor Adam Clague returns to Summit Art this summer for an in-depth, 3-day workshop designed to strengthen your portraiture.

Painting portraits can be highly rewarding, but it can also be intimidating! Perhaps your past portrait attempts have looked flat and formless, or the skin colors have been “chalky” or “muddy.” Maybe you spent hours painting the perfect eye, only to realize later it was in the wrong place. If these struggles sound familiar, you are not alone. Let Adam show you how to conquer these challenges and many more in this information-packed workshop!

Summit Art Plein Air Festival

It's back and we're ready to roll! The 6th Annual Summit Art Plein Air Festival will once again bring artists to Lee's Summit for four days of outdoor painting, learning and festivities. The Plein Air Festival will include opportunities to paint at several iconic historical locations around Lee's Summit including Missouri Town Living History Museum, Longview Lake, Powell Gardens, and Downtown Lee's Summit.

Summit Art Supports Young Artists

Summit Art Club fosters

the next generation of young artists.

Summit Art Club offers high school students the potential to expand their artistic resume and prepare for college-level study in visual art. Summit Art Club (SAC) is an after-school fine arts program for high school students in grades 9-12 that encourages them to expand their artistic resume and prepare for college-level study in visual art.

Led by Summit Art Juried Artist and former LSR7 art educator, Melissa Chaney, students come together 1-2 times a month to explore various artforms, learn how to curate an exhibit and develop a professional portfolio that can be used for college entry review.

The students of Summit Art Club have been hard at work this year developing a deeper understanding of art. Now it’s time for them to show you what they’ve accomplished - and have some fun at the same time! 

Join us at Summit Pizza (Lee’s Summit) on Tuesday, March 10 from 5:30 - 8:00pm for an evening of delicious pizza and vibrant paintings. 

The students are showcasing their pop-up gallery of black canvas paintings that come alive with vibrant color under blacklight - so come find us in the arcade room.

Fine Art Scholarships for

Summit Art proudly awards one-time scholarships of $500 to exceptionally gifted Lee’s Summit high school graduates who will major in an art-related field in college. The Summit Art Scholarship Program has awarded over $40,000 to local visual art students since its inception.

Artist Meet Ups and Critiques

Join local artists at an upcoming Art Talk or Photographers & Friends meet up to network, learn about tips and tools applicable to growing your art practice, and receive helpful feedback along the way. Our artists gatherings are open to members and non-members and offer casual, no-stress space to share your art and connect with others.
