According to Gillian Hernandez, owner and operator of Merle Norman Cosmetics located in the Fairhope French Quarter:

"It's been an exciting journey and the shop is thrilled to be celebrating its one-year anniversary!"

Gillian said she enjoys meeting new and returning customers every day, including those who remember Merle Norman on Section Street many years ago.

Originally from Jamaica, Gillian "grew up in an island culture of investing in people." She explains: "We were very hands-on back home, where seeing, touching, helping and investing in others is a way of life. It's part of who I am, and it makes me happy to do that here in Fairhope through Merle Norman Cosmetics."

After meeting her husband, an aerospace-industry professional, in South Florida, Gillian gave up her career in human resources and made Fairhope her home.

In her own words:

"What appeals most to me about Merle Norman is the clean products with natural, healthy ingredients, vitamins, nutrients, and peptides. I truly believe in the line of products, the founding story, and the work the family has done to carry on the brand. It's been around for over 80 years for a reason!"

***Did you know?? According to the Merle Norman Cosmetics corporate website, "During World War II, Merle Norman [was] called upon to create a special machine gun oil and camouflage stick for American troops." Discover more company history here.

"I love that we have options for all ages. The other day, a young man in his 20's came in with concerns about his complexion and it turned out he needed to incorporate a toner into his routine. I also like to remind ladies that after using the same products for several years, your skin needs you to change it up to stay fresh and healthy."

"The Merle Norman way is to take care of people, go the extra mile, have great products with great ingredients, with a price that's competitive. Our foundations range from $21-$42, lipsticks $19-23, toner $20-30... Helping people speaks to me, it's just who I am."

Call Gillian at 251.716.1727 with questions, schedule a 1-1 appointment, or just stop by. You can find her Tuesday through Saturday 10:30 AM - 5 PM downtown at 42 S. Section Street in the Fairhope French Quarter for a consultation, samples, and a range of options from skin care to color, and more.
