| Ask Congress to Extend and Expand Section 199A for Financial Planners
As we near a likely budget resolution in Congress, it will soon be time for legislators to begin drafting new tax legislation. Congress is considering extending the expiring provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA), which includes the 199A pass-through deduction for specific small businesses. However, financial advisors, financial planners, and investment advisors are not eligible to benefit from this deduction if their overall taxable income exceeds certain thresholds.
FPA has been on the Hill meeting directly with Members of the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance Committees who are drafting tax legislation, asking them to extend and expand Section 199A. Now, your legislators need to hear directly from you!
Send a message to your members of Congress, urging them to expand Section 199A to allow independent financial advisors to benefit from this vital tax deduction! Click here to take action!

Help Support the Freedom To Invest in Tomorrow's Workforce Act
Thanks to the continued efforts of the Tomorrow’s Workforce Coalition (of which FPA is a member), the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (ICE), the Professional Certification Coalition (PCC), and the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), the Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act has been reintroduced in the Senate and the House of Representatives (S. 756 / H.R. 1151). You can read the coalition letter of support here.
The Freedom to Invest in Tomorrow’s Workforce Act would expand qualified expenses under 529 savings plans to include postsecondary training and credentialing, such as licenses and nongovernmental certifications. It would provide valuable tax-advantaged resources to more workers pursuing career growth, mid-career changes, or alternative career pathways, including those in the financial planning sector!
Please take a moment to make your voice heard on this important issue by emailing your members of Congress asking them to SUPPORT S. 756/H.R. 1151 by including it in a broader tax package. Click here to take action!
