Dear ,

I'm curious about something. How are you doing Christian missions in the age of COVID-19? Hungry people are still hungry, after all. If anything, more people are hungry now than before the pandemic. If your church had a food pantry or a feeding ministry, how are you doing that? What has become of your church's community garden, if you had one? What of churches that participated in Family Promise - are you able to open your church to housing the homeless?

CBF Florida's mission partner Touching Miami with Love has had to adapt their ministry with school children and youth. They are supporting their kids virtually and they have had to limit the number of students that are served in a traditional setting. Amani Sasa, our partner in Uganda, has been stretched because of the pressure of feeding so many refugees who lost income when the country went into shutdown. Mission trips to Uganda, disaster response trips to The Bahamas -- these trips have been cancelled and postponed because of travel restrictions.

I'm not sure what you are able to do, but I wanted to offer you three options this week to scratch the Christian itch to love our neighbors. First, our ministry partners are in great need of financial support. The need to be the presence of Christ has been amplified by the virus, and so has the financial pressures being placed on our partners. Your generous gift to CBF Florida's Annual Mission Offering goes directly to our nine mission partners. Discover the amazing work that is happening in Uganda, Togo, Ethiopia, Miami, Immokalee, Cuba, and The Bahamas, and give just by clicking here. Just be sure to click on the "State Missions Offering" button.

Second, for those of you who wanted to go on a mission trip, but your travel plans have been sidelined, Metro Baptist Church and Rauschenbusch Metro Ministries in New York City is offering a virtual Urban Mission Immersion experience. This innovative, virtual mission experience will cover six topics related to urban missions: Homelessness, Youth & Education, Gentrification, Interfaith, Arts & Theater, and Food Justice. This is a great resource for small groups, particularly for anyone who had hoped to get hands-on in 2021.

Third, CBF and CBF Florida are providing limited opportunities to participate in muck out operations in Florida's Panhandle and in the Mississippi Delta region. Also, for anyone wishing to assist, but not travel, CBF is partnering to bring muck-out buckets into the region. Go to CBF's Hurricane Sally info page to register to be part of a team, to learn more about what is happening in the Panhandle, or to sign up to become a part of the muck-out bucket brigade

If you have a mission story that you'd like to share with me and the larger CBF Florida community, please send me an email. I'd love to learn about the creative ways you are being Christ's presence.

Grace and peace,

Ray Johnson
