"You have it easily in your power to increase the sum total of this world's happiness. How? By giving a few words of sincere appreciation to someone. . .Perhaps you will forget tomorrow, the kind words you say today, but the recipient will cherish them over a lifetime."
Dale Carnegie
Dear Southern Door Community,
It is that time of year when we are in for the long haul before breaks and everyone's getting a bit of "cabin fever" with the cold weather, icy roads, and short days. It also means that we are all in such close company with family and friends that we may get on each other's nerves. Research shows that it takes 4-5 positives to balance out 1 negative. You may want to consider your interactions with the important people in your lives - your children, your family members, your co-workers, and others that are part of your life. Would they say that you are providing them with enough positives and appreciation? If we all could do this a little more often, just think how we would make our entire community Eagle Strong!

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT DROP-OFF LANE
The student drop-off lane is clearly marked for your convenience. Parents are asked to remain in the car and have their students exit the vehicle quickly and safely. Parents wishing to spend more time with their students (to write a note, put on student’s coat, etc.) need to park their car and then walk their child to the office. Please follow these guidelines, as well as the directions of staff on duty, each day before school. Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in ensuring that our drop-off process in the morning is safe and flows as smoothly as possible.

WINTER EAGLES' NEST THANK YOU
On December 17 and 18, elementary students had the opportunity to visit the Winter Eagles' Nest. Students earn BEAK tickets for following the Eagle Proud, Eagle Strong expectations of Stay Safe, Offer Kindness, Act Responsibly, and Respect All. They used their BEAK tickets that they collected during the month of December to show kindness and “buy” gifts for two of their family members at the Winter Eagles Nest. Thank you to the Southern Door community for donating items to the Winter Eagles Nest for students to pick out. A special thank you goes out to Mike and Carrol Toneys for organizing and overseeing the Winter Eagles Nest.
Thank you to the following volunteers who helped with set up and providing assistance to students while they shopped: Mike Toneys, Carrol Toneys, Linda Denissen, Maryanne Zjala, Bruce Kokko, Terry Vogel, Kristi Kluge, Miranda Blasier, Ann Kierzek, Lu Ann Knapp, Cindy Noll, Jen Willming, Amy Everard, Linda Phillips, Colleen Michiels, Sue Schmitz, Kim Valley, Katie Bosman, Bonnie Miller, Toni Sorenson, Joanne DuBois, Steven Clark, Sheila Bohling, Brooke Petrina, Jamie Schmiling, Suzanne Parins, and Theresa Kay-Meredith and therapy dog Dex.
In addition, six 5th grade students helped Mike and Carrol Toneys during their recess to store boxes of excess gifts for next year and rearrange furniture in the media center after the holiday break.
