WALKING HUMBLY

“And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” Micah 6:8

Friends, did we do justice to Justice? Did we really love Kindness? Well, now we have the opportunity to put our money where our mouth is, as the saying goes. It's time to walk humbly with our God. Introducing our third and final theme of this liturgical year: Humility

What is humility anyway? I'm not answering this question for you today. The next few Sundays we will explore answers to that question. On September 13th and 20th, you will be greeted by Tamara and Susan, who will invite you to consider what humility means to you and share your thoughts, anonymously, of course. Through this season, we will grow together in our understanding of what true humility is and how it serves the Body of Christ.

Through the fall, we have some rich experiences planned for you. These are opportunities to witness, to listen, to participate, and to walk even.

The first invitation is to a book discussion group that I have already briefly introduced. In order to make this opportunity available to more people, it will be held as a Zoom group. Beginning Tuesday, September 15, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. The link will be below in the Grace Notes. The sessions will be recorded for anyone who wishes to attend by listening later.

Please let me know (email, text, or call the office) if you plan to attend. My sense is to give this format a try. If it doesn't work, we can tweak the plan to make it work better!

Another thing: anyone can attend anytime, even if you have not read the assignment for the week! You can catch up later or just be a listener. I promise that you will still benefit. And I will be sharing some key ideas in this space through the fall.

Here is the book info again:

To Love as God Loves, by Roberta Bondi (Available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.)

I have ordered two extra books to share. Let me know if you want one. In addition, I will provide some excerpts from other resources from time to time.

Bondi uses quotes and stories from the "Desert Father and Mothers" from the earliest centuries of the Church. Excerpts I will offer will expand the voices of the Desert Mothers. Though living lives very different from ours, these early Christians dealt with human concerns very much like ours.

I am excited to invite you to participate in this exploration of "walking humbly with our God."
