Honorlock: 3 More Issues That Can Disrupt an Exam

1. Launching the exam from the wrong place

Honorlock exams should be launched through the Honorlock Dashboard in the Canvas course navigation menu. If a student tries to access the exam through a bookmark, direct link, module, or another location, they may run into problems with the Honorlock launch process.

2. Missing required permissions during setup

During the authentication and pre-exam steps, students may be prompted to allow access to their camera, microphone, screen, or other permissions. Students should carefully read each prompt and allow the required permissions before continuing with the exam.

3. Unstable internet or a computer that needs a restart

A weak or inconsistent internet connection can interrupt an Honorlock session. Students experiencing technical issues should also restart their computer before beginning the exam and close unnecessary programs that could interfere with the exam session.

Faculty Tip: If a student continues to have trouble after checking these items, direct them to Honorlock 24/7 Support from the computer they are using for the exam. This allows Honorlock Support to troubleshoot the student's specific device and setup. Additionally, these Honorlock Troubleshooting Tips may be helpful before reaching out to Honorlock.

❓ Canvas FAQ Corner

Quick answers to common Canvas questions from faculty like you!

📌 Q1: Are there shortcuts that can help me build Canvas pages faster?

A: Yes! Faculty who use DesignPLUS can take advantage of keyboard shortcuts to access its tools more quickly. For example, Alt + Shift + D on Windows or Option + Shift + D on Mac opens the DesignPLUS sidebar when supported by the current setup.

📌 Q2: What are Canvas Portfolios, and how can students use them?

A: Canvas Portfolios allow students to collect and showcase examples of their work, skills, and learning over time. They can be useful for reflection, documenting progress, and presenting accomplishments beyond individual course assignments.

📌 Q3: Can Canvas help me identify students who may need additional support?

A: Yes. Canvas New Analytics provides information about student participation and performance, helping instructors identify patterns that may warrant a closer look. Use this information alongside other indicators of student progress to determine when additional outreach may be helpful.

📌 Q4: How can I make my Canvas discussions more engaging?

A: Try using a real-world scenario, case study, or common misconception as the starting point for a discussion. Specific prompts that ask students to apply course concepts can encourage more meaningful responses than broad, open-ended questions.

📌 Q5: Can I add questions directly into videos in Canvas?

A: Yes! Canvas Studio allows instructors to create interactive video quizzes that include questions throughout a video. This gives students opportunities to check their understanding as they watch rather than waiting until the video ends.
