EMPOWERING BLACK OHIO. DRIVING EQUITABLE CHANGE.

New From OLBCF: Understanding Policies Impacting Our Communities

OLBCF is launching a new series called Black Papers. These short policy summaries break down legislation that directly affects Black communities across Ohio. Our goal is simple.

We want our communities to understand what is happening at the Statehouse and how those decisions shape our daily lives.

Our first highlighted Black Paper is focused on Ohio Senate Bill 293, a law that changes the deadline for returning absentee ballots. Voting access is a critical issue for ALL Ohioans, and policies like this can have real consequences for who is able to participate in our democracy.

Through OLBCF Black Papers, we will continue to explain major policy decisions in clear language, so our communities stay informed and prepared to advocate for ourselves.

You can view our list of additional Black Papers here. We plan to update this section regularly with in-depth information regarding new bills that directly impact our communities.

A Year of Impact. A Future of Possibility.

We are proud to announce the release of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation’s first Annual Report. This report reflects the depth of our work and our unwavering commitment to ensuring that Black Ohio is seen, heard, and represented in policy and practice. It captures a year of advocacy, partnership, and resilience in the face of challenges. More than a reflection, it is a testament to our mission and the communities we serve, and a promise to continue pushing forward.

Happy Women’s History Month! Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation honors the strength and leadership of Black women who have shaped Ohio’s legislative history. We celebrate trailblazers like Stephanie Tubbs Jones and Helen Rankin, whose barrier-breaking service expanded opportunity for generations, and we uplift today’s Black women legislators advancing equity, protecting voting rights, and championing education, healthcare, and economic justice. We also recognize our President, Shayla L. Davis, Former State Representative and Councilwoman whose leadership continues to guide our mission. Because of their impact, past and present, Ohio is stronger.

OLBCF Awarded Operating Support Grant

Thank you to The Gund Foundation Board of Trustees, President Tony Richardson and Program Director Treye Johnson for strengthening Black-led policy infrastructure. Together, we are shaping a brighter future for Ohio!
