During this midyear donation cycle, I have asked a cherished friend, deeply valued member of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) Advisory Board and 2011 MRFF Thomas Jefferson honoree, Mike Farrell, to personally ask for your support in our ongoing civil rights advocacy work. Mike graciously recorded an appeal video of which the transcript has been included as an enclosure in this, our 2023 Midyear Appeal.
Chair of the Board of Death Penalty Focus, Mike Farrell is also spokesperson for Concern America, an international refugee aid and development organization, Co-Chair Emeritus of the California Committee of Human Rights Watch and, occasionally, a Good Will Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Known to millions as “B.J. Hunnicutt” of television’s historic “M*A*S*H” and from NBC-TV’s “Providence,” he is also the producer of Universal Pictures’ hit “Patch Adams.”
A refugee aid and human rights activist, Farrell first traveled to the Thai/Cambodian border in 1980. In the following decade he took part in aid missions and human rights delegations to El Salvador, Nicaragua and Honduras; after one such trip he represented the delegation in testimony before the U.S. Congress. In the same period, delegations took him to the then U.S.S.R., Paraguay, Chile, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Israel, the Occupied Territories, Somalia, Bosnia and Rwanda.
