Big Bear High School Poster Contest Winner Announced
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month, DOVES recently held a poster contest with art students at Big Bear High School. BBHS art teacher, Andrew Wilson, graciously allowed DOVES advocate Dawn Hull the opportunity to speak to his 2-D Art class about the prevalence of domestic violence and the emotional effect it has on children and teens in the home. Students were given the opportunity to display their creative and artistic abilities to convey the impact of family violence. The students surpassed all expectations by submitting unbelievably powerful artwork full of insight and emotion.

The finalists were on display at DOVES annual Starry Starry Night Gala, where attendees got to vote for their favorites. Senior Hannah Magers won first place for her entry which depicted the pain verbal abuse has on victims, who often maintain, “I’m fine.” The top ten posters will be used in future DOVES outreach materials to promote domestic violence prevention and show the unique impact young people can have by knowing and finding their voice.

Cub Scout Pack 49 shopped, packaged up and delivered Thanksgiving dinner baskets to DOVES with the help of DA Davidson for local families as part of their fall service project. They included all their traditional and not so traditional holiday favorites - even cookie dough!
DOVES Receives Albertsons Companies Foundation and In-N-Out Burger Foundation Grants
The Albertsons Companies Foundation awarded DOVES $1,500 to support our Transitional Living Program. Monies from this grant will go directly toward rent and utility assistance to help survivors live independently from an abusive partner. Learn more about our Transitional Living Program here.

The In-N-Out Burger Foundation awarded DOVES $3,000 to support our Children's Therapy Program. This money will be used to support our staff therapists who work directly with children, and will also provide supplies for children's therapy.

We are incredibly grateful to both foundations for supporting our mission of o ffering intervention, education, and prevention services to those affected by domestic violence as they build safe and healthy lives.
