Celebrating Building Hope!

We are incredibly grateful for BUILDING HOPE: An Evening for Affordable Housing, hosted at Highland Brewing Company on Monday evening with 250 of our closest friends! Thank you to all who attended! Guests heard powerful stories of resilience and how your support builds homes, neighborhoods, and thriving communities, especially now as we recover from Hurricane Helene. Stories like those of Promise, Robin, and Whitley are a testament to the power of home and rebuilding hope.

“These brave stories illustrate what we know about the transformative power of housing: that all of us thrive when people in our region have a safe, stable, affordable place to call home. This was true before Helene and it feels even more important as we work to repair, rebuild, and recover together.”

– Greta Byrd, MHO Board Member

MHO Breaks Ground on Lakeshore Villas!

On Monday, November 18th, MHO broke ground at Lakeshore Villas, a 120-unit affordable housing community in Arden! Lakeshore is the 22nd affordable housing complex developed by MHO since 1995. Construction will begin in early 2025 and is expected to be completed by Winter 2026.

Special thanks to our community members who attended the groundbreaking, including the Lakeshore Villas financing and building partners from Dogwood Health Trust, First Citizens Bank, North Carolina Housing Finance Agency, Buncombe County, Asheville Regional Housing Consortium, and CAHEC. We also welcomed Housing Studio as the project's architect, Civil Design Concepts as the project's civil design engineering partner, and WEAVERCOOKE Construction as the general contractor.

MHO Remembers Angela Evans

MHO remembers Angela Evans, a cherished MHO employee, and member of the Essential Home Repair (EHR) team who passed away on October 21st, 2024. Angela was dedicated to her family, friends, and community. She loved her role at MHO on the EHR team, working to help those in need find the necessary repairs to stay in their homes. Lee, the Repair & Rehabilitation Manager remembers Angela as someone who was fiercely dedicated to the people MHO serves. “I’ve never met anyone as dedicated to the MHO mission and developing affordable housing in our community,” said Lee. “Angela truly believed everyone deserved a safe place to call home. She was a wonderful colleague and even better friend. We miss her immensely.”

December 3rd is #GivingTuesday!

GivingTuesday is just around the corner! Established in 2012, it began as a simple concept: a day dedicated to inspiring people to spread kindness and do good! It’s grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity. This year, we hope you'll consider supporting Mountain Housing Opportunities and the Hurricane Helene Housing Recovery Fund. Your donation stays local and fuels our efforts to create, repair, and preserve affordable homes for residents of western North Carolina. Together, we will rebuild hope!
