Lord Jesus, who as a young adult heard and obeyed the call to give your life for the salvation of all people and for the kingdom of God:

Help me in this time of my youth to discover how best to serve God.

In my days of preparation at school, keep ever before my eyes the prize that is better than any early gain. Save me from material aims and ambitions, and direct me in all my studies that they may serve, above all, things to make me better prepared to do the work which you will give me to do. Keep me day by day loyal to you, and help me to influence others toward love of you and your holy church.

Amen.

Rolling Hills, MO:

As if being the new kid in 6th grade isn't hard enough, you have just been accused of stealing Honey the Bunny, the beloved class pet in Ms. Hartwell’s room. You swear you didn't touch him but Principal Stern won't listen. He is about to close the case and assign your punishment when Principal Stern needs to tend to an emergency and leaves you alone in his office. As the door shuts behind him, your eyes veer over toward his desk, where the case file for his principal’s investigation into the missing bunny lies.

CASE FACTS:

  • VICTIM: Honey The Bunny
  • LOCATION: Rolling Hills Elementary School
  • CRIME: Theft
  • FAMILY CASE NUMBER: H-123B

Can you prove you are innocent before he returns? Find the real bunny thief? Maybe even save Honey’s life and become the hero of Ms. Hartwell’s class?

Nothing Better Under the Sun (Ecclesiastes 8:15), Mark Lawrence

In thinking about "listening" for God in Sunday school last week, we learned that the Teacher/Preacher/writer of Ecclesiastes was writing at a time when many were asking: "Why isn't God speaking to us like God once did?" After all, living in Greek- occupied territory after conquest by Alexander the Great, many believed that this was the time for God to speak! But much as we may feel whenever the wi-fi's out? They're getting nothing. And it leads the writer to wonder: is everything pointless?

How do you feel when you don't feel as though God is around?
