International Partnerships

We have an urgent need for two families to host incoming exchange students from Kobe, Japan. We will have 1 male student, a female student and their teacher (also female). The students are sophomores and speak excellent English. They arrive on November 8th and depart on November 22nd. If interested, please contact Dr. Moncada.

Robotics Club

Meets: Fridays 2:15pm - 4:30pm in Room # TBD beginning mid-September, 2014

Chair: Takeyoshi Nakamura; Advisor: TBD; Fees: $100

ICS PTSA Robotics Club will meet once a week after school. The club will concentrate on robotics skills (planning, building, programming, analyzing), teamwork and leadership skills. Students will work with the VEX system. At least two parent volunteers are needed at each weekly session. Parents with either hardware or software experience, or anyone that is good at working with their hands and building things are ideal. Our club will participate in two local and regional VEX competitions.

We are also looking for any parent volunteers to run the club such as co-chair or supervising the club hours. You do not have to have deep robotics skill or experience although it is nice to have them.

Possibility of discrepancies in collected funds during ICS Registration

The board manages the collection of funds on behalf of LWSD, ICS and the PTSA during registration. Please understand it has been determined that the value of supplies collected for ICS at registration may have been incorrect due to challenges resulting in multiple versions of the form being available on the website. The situation does not negatively impact any school activities. We are reconciling the amounts received per grade against the value of funds per student the PTSA membership voted to approve for this year's budget. We are anticipating the shortfall to be $25 per student and slightly more for Seniors depending on electives. Your patience is appreciated as we remediate the error.

Legislative Corner

Each fall, WSPTSA members provide feedback on our legislative platform through a survey. In the survey, members review proposed legislative issues (drafted & submitted by our membership) then select a Top 5 platform from those. Members are also asked to provide feedback on proposed changes to our existing platform.

Your responses will help inform our discussions and voting at Legislative Assembly. The 2015 legislative session will focus primarily on education; that means this survey is your chance to tell WSPTA what education issues are most important to you.

Here's the survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/LEG2014.  Please take 10 minutes to tell us what you think. The survey closes on September 30.

Survey Tip: Because there are multiple proposed issues, we suggest reading all of them before ranking your Top 5. Questions? Contact Beth Sigall, VP, Advocacy, Lake Wash PTSA Council. Thank you!
