Lewis Elkin School Creates Weekly Opportunities for Kindergarten Families
|
This month we are celebrating the staff and families at Lewis Elkin School in Kensington. Nearly every week, Kindergarten students and their parents or caring adults are invited to the school to participate in "My Kinder & Me". This program offers an opportunity for students, staff, and families to connect, eat breakfast together, and participate in fun, bonding, and linked-to-learning activities. This provides a space for everyone to build relationships and walk away feeling more confident in supporting a child's learning in and out of the classroom. A special shout out to School-Based Teacher Leader Jasselle Cirino and Principal Charlotte Gillum for developing My Kinder & Me and Math Interventionist Tessa Nitkin, Bilingual Counseling Assistant Yoleiky Castro, and other school staff who support this initiative every week.

The Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities is reviewing and revising the Code of Conduct for the 2024-2025 school year. The purpose of the Code of Conduct is to 1) outline clear expectations for all school community members; 2) provide information around student and parent/guardian rights and supports; and 3) equip staff with guidelines for addressing student behavior.
It is important that the voices and perspectives of all stakeholders are included, especially our families and community members! We invite you to review the current Code of Conduct and complete the feedback survey. Please provide as much detail as possible to help us improve our work.

Student Well-Being Survey is Open Now through June 14 | The Office of School Climate and Culture has been working diligently to collect information about our students' experiences and implement changes that are significant for our school communities. We are pleased to announce that 73.2% of our students district-wide participated and provided valuable feedback on their overall school experience. Our survey window coincides with the Philly School Experience Survey, in which families are invited to participate as well.
