10/18 FRIDAY 3PM — The Book(s) that Changed Your Life at the Salt Lake City Public Library

For this Utah Humanities Book Festival panel, Catherine Weller, guest speakers, and members of the audience reflect on the books that shifted the course of their lives in small and big ways. This interactive and engaging conversation will explore the power reading has to impact our lives in ways we can't always see in the moment (as well as maybe give you some ideas for your next read).

10/23WEDESDAY 6PM — Lit Knit

10/25 FRIDAY 6:30PM — Collectors' Book Salon

Book-lovers and collectors meet in the Rare Book department for the Collectors' Book Salon every final Friday of each month, January through October. We begin casually around 6:30 PM with socializing, light refreshments, and shared bibliolust. At 7:15, an invited bibliophile leads the Collectors' Chat about a topic of her or his particular knowledge and passion. Each Salon, Tony offers a special deal on rare books that is only for Salon guests.

Michael Stewart. The End of Books: A Triangular Theme

Our October 25 Salon will feature Michael Stewart. Through his life, Michael learned to appreciate the art of the physical book and began collecting them, becoming a habitué of bookstores– not the least patronized being Sam Weller’s Bookstore on Main, where he worked for a year. His principal reading is Literary History (primarily English & American), the manifold books discussed therein, and especially, 19th century Americana. Michael will talk of the effect of books on his psyche and life, having reached a milestone in years when his reading life has now a very foreseeable end.
