Monthly Spotlight

March is Women’s History Month; a time to reflect on the economic progress women have made in the American workforce, and the distance that remains.

Equal Pay Day, observed on Thursday, March 26th, marks one chapter of that history still being written. Created by the National Committee on Pay Equity in 1996, it symbolizes how far into the year women must work to earn what men made in the previous year alone.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey Estimates, women who worked full-time, year-round, earned 82 cents for every dollar earned by men in Kansas during 2024.

DYK

Did you know KDOL's Labor Market Information (LMI) Division administers several surveys in partnership with the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)? These surveys are a cooperative effort between the BLS and LMI Division. BLS funds the survey and provides the procedures and technical support, while the LMI Division collects most of the data. Below is the list of surveys that Kansas employers may be asked to complete:

Have you been asked to participate in a BLS survey?

The generous cooperation of the people who participate in these surveys helps us fulfill BLS' mission of providing vital information about our economy and society to our nation's workers and employers.

If you have been asked to participate in one of these surveys, please say “Yes.” The LMI Division and BLS need your help to provide vital information about our state. Your response is vital!

To verify that the person who contacted you about a survey is a BLS data collector, please contact the BLS Regional Commissioner for your area.
