When the party is still going strong an hour after the scheduled end time, you know you've done something right. That was the case at our 17th annual IBS Networking Reception. We had a great turnout and a fun crowd.
The casual and intimate atmosphere our event is known for was alive and well at our new location in the ballroom on the 17th floor of the Las Vegas Marriott. Our compliments to the kitchen staff. People are still talking about the bacon-wrapped scallops and decadent desserts.
A big thank you to the following sponsors for their participation and support: Daikin, GAF, Lennox, SKUWorld, ECI, LiftMaster, PermitFlow, Wayne Dalton, Genie, Delta Faucet, Unilock, Homes for HOPE, and New Home Sales Plus.
We appreciate all of the fantastic items our sponsors donated for the prize drawing which included an iPad and a football signed by NFL wide receiver, Terrell Owens.

Consultant's Corner

Interest rates are still higher now than they were twelve months ago, causing buyers to continue to bail out of buying both new and existing homes. These higher rates have reduced sales and home prices.
People have been paying close attention to rates—along with gasoline prices—and now, their jobs. Jobs are still reasonably stable, but there are more that are part-time and less with overtime. Gasoline prices are back to where they were a year ago, and interest rates dropped a bit. But are they going to come down, maybe where they were a year ago? Will they at least stop going up?
Even if we have seen the top—which I doubt—everyone is skittish because of the fast increases this year.

Market survey data continues to prove that new home buyers want quality outdoor living. In fact, demand for exceptional outdoor living spaces now rivals other top priorities (like kitchens and primary suites) as one of the most important elements of a floor plan. In response, outdoor living must be designed as a primary element of the plan, not as an afterthought. Exterior lifestyle opportunities should be developed early in the program to ensure they will integrate, extend and highlight amazing outdoor living experiences that will win buyers.

Not all roof styles are created equal, and neither are attic ventilation systems. Different roof styles often require particular types of attic intake and exhaust vents, and it's important that they're able to balance the amount of air they take in against the amount they expel. Attic ventilation systems fall into two broad categories: static (also known as "passive") and mechanical. In a static system, outside air enters into the attic through soffit/eave vents and exits through vents positioned at or near the top of the space. In order for static ventilation to work, approximately equal amounts of ventilation must be placed at both the entry and exit points. Mechanical systems use engines that are able to force air to ventilate, though it is still important to provide for adequate intake air to make this possible. Mechanical systems are most often used with hip roofs, where the ridge length is shorter.
