The City of Comanche is a recipient of an OU Institute of Quality Communities (IQC) and OML grant. The purpose of the grant is to seek conceptual design guidance, input on orientation and layout, and, how to utilize a vacant building space for construction of both a new public municipal library and museum.
The City owns an historic piece of land where the former Woodrow Wilson building stood prior to a fire several years ago. Since the fire, the land has not been redeveloped and has stood as an eyesore in the downtown area. This is the anticipated site for the new structure.
The idea of building a combination library and museum was originally conceived by a group of Comanche High School students who are a part of the Comanche Student City Council. They saw the need for a place where students could gather after school to study, work on projects, and have access to the internet.
The IQC is now working along with the City, its partners and students to make recommendations on the design of the new building.
