Back to School: Leading with Kindness, Recognizing Bullying, and Knowing How to Help

Kindness is contagious. It raises self-esteem, optimism, energy, and happiness, and it lowers pain, stress, anxiety, and depression. It's also teachable: practicing kindness makes people more compassionate and more inclined to help others, which benefits everyone involved. Kindness is modeled. As caregivers, we model kindness through the way we speak about ourselves and others in front of our children.

Coalition Highlights

This July was full of opportunities for the Boone County Alliance to learn, grow, and bring new ideas back to our community. Coalition members attended CADCA's 25th Annual Mid-Year Training Institute and Fentanyl Free America Summit in Orlando, Florida, where prevention professionals from across the country came together under the theme Powered by Purpose.

Throughout the week, we participated in trainings on emerging drug trends, youth engagement, sustainability planning, coalition leadership, and other evidence-based prevention strategies. These sessions gave us practical tools and fresh perspectives that will strengthen the work we're doing here in Boone County.

One of the greatest strengths of our coalition is our commitment to continuous learning and collaboration. We don't just attend conferences—we bring those ideas home, share them with our partners, and turn them into action. Over the coming months, we'll be highlighting key takeaways during coalition meetings, incorporating new strategies into our work, and sharing what we've learned through newsletters and community outreach.

By staying connected to national best practices while keeping our focus on local needs, the Boone County Alliance continues to grow as a strong, informed coalition dedicated to creating a healthier and safer community for our youth and families.

Partner Spotlight: Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC)

The Boone County Alliance (BCA) and our local Family Resource and Youth Services Centers (FRYSC) share a heart-centered partnership built on a simple, powerful truth: our kids do best when we all work together. By bringing prevention and support right into the school hallways, this collaboration bridges the gap between community-wide goals and the daily, real-life needs of students and families. From co-hosting nicotine and substance misuse education to empowering student leaders who speak up for their peers, BCA and FRYSC coordinators walk side-by-side. Combining BCA's resources with FRYSC’s trusted, everyday relationships creates a warm safety net across Boone County—ensuring our youth always have the care, guidance, and encouragement they need to feel supported both in and out of the classroom.
