Enough for the Next Step

God of every morning and every midnight,

Even when the world feels heavy,

you are still God, and we are still yours.

So we will keep showing up, heart open, hands trembling,

Trusting that hope is not gone, just quiet.

When we're standing in the in between,

when answers don’t come easy and prayers feel like whispers in the wind, remind us:

You’ve parted seas before.

You’ve raised what was dead.

You’ve made a way where there was no way.

Do it again, Lord! Do it again.

Stir the still waters in our restless hearts.

Hold our questions gently.

And breathe something new into this moment.

We don’t need all the light,

just enough for the next step.

And maybe a little more courage than we had yesterday.

Books on Compassionate Communication

Sometimes we all need a little dose of hope in the world. Click here for a list of books that can teach compassionate communication and help us be the hope our friends and family need. Thank you to Julie Nice for compiling this list!

Welcome, 3-D!

Join us in welcoming new sexton Donald "3-D" Jefferson III, grandson of our own Donald Jefferson! 3-D was introduced to the congregation on Sunday and begins his work this week.

Got SCAPC Photos?

We are collecting memorable photos of SCAPC events/life over the years and would welcome yours! Please email them to Ashley Brown at ashley@scapc.org.

Sign Up to Bring Sunday Snacks

The Congregational Life Committee is seeking volunteers to provide refreshments for the congregation each week following the 10:30 a.m. service. Refreshments can consist of small bites, homemade or store-bought cookies, finger sandwiches, muffins, granola bars, etc. for which the church can reimburse up to $50. We ask that refreshments be delivered to Frampton Fellowship Hall, plated and ready to go, by 10 a.m. on Sundays. Sign up at scapc.org/volunteer.

Katrina Memorial Service

As we approach the 20th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, this event brings up many emotions and memories in our community. As a community of faith which endeavors to hold space and care for one another in all of life’s circumstances, we are offering the following as opportunities for reflection, worship, prayer, and mutual support. If you find yourself wanting to speak to a pastor for further support regarding the memories brought up by this anniversary please reach out to Parish Associate Miriam Hollar at(miriam@scapc.org.

A Service of Lament, Thanksgiving, and Healing

We invite you to join us for worship on August 29 as we remember and lament what was lost and we give thanks to God for the ways we have been cared for and carried through this tragedy. We will honor those who were lost, those who came to help, and those who, with resilience and strength, came back and rebuilt this community.

5:30 p.m. Doors open for quiet prayer and reflection

6:00 p.m. Worship begins

Sharing Our Stories of Remembrance and Hope

Throughout August, we will be sharing our stories of remembrance and hope on two bulletin boards in Frampton Fellowship Hall. We invite those who wish to share stories, memories, feelings, photos, tokens, etc. of things, people, and places that were lost as well as those things and memories that brought you hope in the midst of the recovery. You may hand write your stories or submit them via email to Pastor Sarah who will print them off and add them to the display. As you leave your story, photo, memory, etc. please take with you a stone with the word “Hope” written on it, as a physical prayer to remind us that we take hope with us on this continued journey of healing and rebuilding.

To learn more, visit our Cuba Ministry webpage. Savannah and Arden Weiser participated in a presentation with Kendall as a result of their building a Living Waters water filtration system to go to a community in Peru in their STEM for Others class at Ursuline Academy last semester.
