Project Update: Force Main Replacement Along Pine Tree Drive

Notice Date: Friday, June 6, 2025

Project Update

The Force Main Replacement project along Pine Tree Drive at 51 Street is underway. To facilitate the work zone near the approach to W 51 Street, the contractor has implemented a temporary traffic pattern modification, as indicated in red on the map.

  • The easternmost northbound lane will remain designated for northbound traffic.
  • The westernmost northbound lane will be converted into the sole southbound lane.
  • The two existing southbound lanes will be closed to accommodate the work area.

This traffic pattern is anticipated to go into effect today and remain in place for approximately two weeks.

What's Happening

This project extends across the Flamingo Waterway, starting at Sewer Pump Station #15, located at the intersection of Pine Tree Drive and La Gorce Drive, and continues to the south side of the bridge near 49 Street and Pine Tree Drive. Approximately 1,800 linear feet of force main have been installed using the horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and open-cut construction methods. The contractor has been flushing the force mains, and has been making preparations to install additional piping on both the north and south sides of the project.

Upon completion of the project, the area will be restored to its original condition, with necessary repairs made to the road, landscaping, curbs, and sidewalks.

Project Overview & Benefits

The City of Miami Beach is replacing aging sewer mains on the Pine Tree Drive bridge between 49 and 51 Streets with two subaqueous sewer lines. These pipes are deemed critical in the City's Sewer Master Plan and are in poor condition, having surpassed their useful life. This project will improve the overall efficiency and reliability of our system.
