Greetings WILPF Sisters,
On June 18 we’ll gather in DC as partners in the historic Poor People's Campaign (PPC) rally. Won’t you join us?
It is particularly significant to have you there, since this is a WILPF Solidarity Action. For the first time in several years, we have an opportunity to unite in person. You are among the WILPF members in closest proximity to DC, so we encourage you to join in. The June 18 events support the 140 million poor and low wage people in the U.S.
We know that when we lift from the bottom, everybody rises. So many of WILPF's areas of concern are also the PPC’s focus. One principle emphasis for the Campaign is opposing the prevalence of militarism and the corporate profits that ensue – including low wages for “essential” workers, the lack of health care for all, ecological devastation and religious nationalism’s distorted moral narrative that threatens our democracy.
For these and many other reasons, we ask you to stand together with us, as we show the power of people to change this system. It does not have to be this way, but it will continue if we do not make our outrage known. This is one of the most important opportunities to do just that.
Do you need a grant to help pay for travel and/or housing for the June events? You will see information about applying for small grants in the eNews.
Additionally, we are all invited to have lunch with the WILPF board on June 19, since they’ll be meeting and holding a retreat in nearby Fairfax, Virginia. Enjoy this in-person opportunity, which can strengthen our ability to collaborate and our organization.
Let me know if I can help with your planning questions. Please respond to me if you will be able to attend the rally on June 18 and/or the meal on June 19.
