Bringing the Mediterranean to the Jersey Shore

When Florian Furxhiu opened Mediterrano By Santorini in Cape May this Spring, he wasn't simply opening another restaurant – he was again bringing to life a vision inspired by his childhood along the Albanian coast.
Born in Albania and arriving in the United States at age 14, Furxhiu grew up remembering the vibrant seaside restaurants of Europe, where exceptional food was only part of the experience.
“I always loved the way those restaurants made people feel the moment they walked through the door,” he says. “It wasn't just about eating dinner. It was about creating an experience.”
That philosophy has become the foundation of his growing restaurant group, which now includes Mediterrano By Santorini, Santorini, Venezia and La Cantina, with the latter three being in Wildwood. Each restaurant offers its own distinct concept while sharing the same commitment to thoughtful design, welcoming hospitality and memorable dining experiences.
A vision backed by trusted relationships
| | |
As Furxhiu expanded his business, he relied on relationships just as much as recipes.
His longtime commercial mortgage broker, Irini Lulu, introduced him to Jennifer Gardella, Vice President of Commercial Lending at Hyperion Bank. After successfully working together on previous projects, Furxhiu chose to continue that partnership when financing Mediterrano By Santorini.
“When Jennifer joined Hyperion, there was never a question,” Furxhiu says, who had worked with her at a previous bank. “We trusted her experience, and we wanted to continue working with her.”
For Furxhiu, responsiveness is every bit as important as competitive financing.
“When I'm running multiple businesses, I need answers quickly,” he says. “Jennifer, Irini and the entire Hyperion team are incredibly responsive. If I call or text, I hear back quickly. That level of communication is invaluable.”
Gardella says watching Florian continue to grow has been especially rewarding.
“Florian has a clear vision for every restaurant he creates,” she says. “It's exciting to support entrepreneurs who combine creativity, hard work and exceptional execution. We're proud to be part of his continued growth.”

Building destinations, not just restaurants
Since opening his first full-service restaurant just a few years ago, Furxhiu has built a portfolio of successful dining destinations across the Jersey Shore.
His newest concept, Mediterrano By Santorini, combines Mediterranean-inspired cuisine with elegant coastal design, creating an atmosphere that encourages guests to slow down and enjoy the entire experience.
Among his favorite menu recommendations are the slow-braised lamb shank, seafood pappardelle-inspired Pescatore made with shorter Paccheri pasta, and a signature chicken parmesan served with pink vodka sauce instead of traditional marinara.
While every concept has its own personality – from Greek-inspired Santorini to Italian favorite Venezia and the vibrant Mexican atmosphere of La Cantina – they all share the same goal.
“We put our hearts into every detail,” Furxhiu says. “I want people to walk in and immediately feel like they're somewhere special.”
Hyperion Bank is proud to support entrepreneurs like Florian Furxhiu whose passion, craftsmanship and commitment to exceptional customer experiences continue to strengthen the communities they serve.

| | Hyperion completes successful capital raise | | |
We're pleased to share an exciting milestone: Hyperion has successfully completed an oversubscribed $14.7 million capital raise that will support our continued growth in Philadelphia and Atlanta.
Unlike many bank capital raises today, this investment isn’t funding an acquisition or addressing financial challenges. It’s about building on the momentum we've created together (thank you!) and ensuring we can continue meeting the needs and exceeding the expectations of the businesses, families and communities we proudly serve.
“This capital enables us to continue saying 'yes' to the opportunities we see every day,” says Charlie Crawford, our Chairman & CEO. “We're growing because our customers continue to place their trust in us, and this investment ensures we can keep supporting that growth while maintaining the disciplined approach that’s helped defined Hyperion.”
As we prepare to celebrate our 20th anniversary later this year, we're grateful for the confidence shown by our investors – and especially for the trust our customers, team members and business partners place in us every day. Your support is the foundation of our growth, and we're excited for what’s ahead – with you.
