The Mahr One Health Lecture by Dr. Dye will examine the Bundibugyo ebolavirus outbreak in Africa and the Andes hantavirus outbreak, two events that highlight how emerging zoonotic viruses can cross species barriers and challenge existing diagnostics, vaccines, therapeutics, and public health systems. Together, these outbreaks underscore the importance of the One Health approach, demonstrating that understanding, preventing, and controlling emerging infectious diseases requires the integration of human health, animal reservoirs, environmental factors, disease surveillance, and the rapid development of medical countermeasures.
