I was onsite at a client last week for their go live on 11/11. Getting there was not easy. We hit points where we truly doubted we would make it. Testing was messy, scope shifted more than once, and our communication runway kept shrinking. Still, we pushed through. We trusted the process. More importantly, we trusted each other.
Somewhere along the way, I made a promise. If we went live on time, I would make a batch of Bravo baklava. My baklava is on a whole other level. It is magical, and I only make it for special occasions with family and friends. But I had promised, and keeping promises is something I take seriously.
So there I was, moving between pre go live calls, a half packed carryon, and a kitchen that smelled like honey and toasted walnuts. Baking baklava for a technical go live is not typical, but nothing about me is typical.
And then it happened. We crossed the finish line. No sky falling. No earth cracking open. Just a quiet conference room, an all day call with the technical team, steady check ins, a celebratory luncheon, and the surprising calm that comes after a hard won effort. Not perfect, but close enough.
That is the truth about Bravo moments. They are not rewards for perfection. They are celebrations of grit, tenacity, and showing up when it counts. They are for the people who push through long nights, early mornings, and every unpredictable turn in the journey.
Sometimes it is baklava. Sometimes it is chili. Sometimes a veggie lasagna. It is never about the food. It is about honoring the effort and the people who make the work come alive.
So here is to this go live, and every one before it. Here is to the Bravo.
What's something unusual you've done to celebrate or recognize special occasions? Tell me about it!
