One building at a time, Main Street programs are filling their downtowns, creating vibrant communities, and revitalizing their local economies to be places where new memories can be made. Missouri Main Street Connection delivers trainings and provides services that educate and equip Main Street programs on how to retain and attract businesses to fill their first-floor vacancies and how to use their upper-story vacant spaces. Focusing revitalization in these areas returns Main Streets to their historic roots of being the heart of the community.

Over the past 15 years, Accredited Main Street organizations achieved an average first-floor occupancy rate of 92% (as of January 2023) by recruiting new entrepreneurs and retaining keystone businesses through the help of Missouri Main Street Connection, supported in part by generous donors.

Full Main Streets provide locals and visitors new favorite shops or restaurants to discover and create new memories. The impact of these full Main Streets on the local economy cannot be understated.

As it has been said before, clustering restaurants and shops together in your downtown district creates a center of activity. This draws in people who want to grab a bite to eat but haven't yet decided so they come downtown and pick out of the options that are downtown. Plus people like being where the action is and when a Main Street is full there is a lot of action going on.

Missouri Main Street Connection staff works with communities on business recruitment plans, brings in speakers like Jim Thompson and more who provide resource to Main Street programs to create full downtowns celebrating their local history & promoting their community’s values.
