July 2025

Hi Friend,

With just over three weeks left of Summer Club, the excitement at Boys & Girls Club is still going strong! Our campers have been out and about exploring the best of western Montana - from historic Fort Missoula and Garnet Ghost Town to the refreshing waters of Lake Como, with plenty of huckleberry stops along the way. Nature walks, field games, Splash Montana, science experiments, and craft projects have filled our days with joy, exploration, and a healthy dose of glitter.

This month, we reimagined our MAPS camping experience. In response to families' evolving needs, we pivoted from an overnight model to a high-energy day camp format, complete with pitching tents, fire building, hiking, and of course, s'mores. The spirit of camp adventure stayed the same, and the laughter and muddy shoes told us we got it just right.

We’ve loved seeing friendships deepen, confidence bloom, and imaginations run wild. As we round the corner into August, we’re savoring every last moment, from goofy dance breaks to quiet moments of mentorship. Before we know it, the school year will arrive and our After School Programs will be back in action - ready to greet kids with open doors and big hearts.

With gratitude,

Rachel Jensen

Club Highlights

Berry Sweet Adventures

Is there anything more quintessentially Montana than eating huckleberries straight from the bush? For the past two weeks, our Summer Club members have been savoring this sweet tradition whenever they get the chance.

One of our favorite spots is a little patch tucked along the road on the way home from Garnet Ghost Town - a hidden gem that's become a favorite spot for berry hunting, snacking, and sticky purple fingers.

These spontaneous moments are one of the simple joys of being a kid in Montana, and we feel lucky every day to share them with our Club youth.

Club Chef

July 7th - 11th

Ten young chefs took center stage in our culinary-themed enrichment camp this summer, whipping up tasty treats and building confidence in the kitchen. Throughout the week, they explored the art and science of cooking, learning essential skills like knife safety, using kitchen tools, measuring ingredients, and mastering the balance of flavors and textures. Along the way, they crafted a variety of sweet and savory delights, from spring rolls to sticky buns.

MAPS Day Camps

We’ve been listening closely to what families are saying, and one thing has become clear: more and more parents are feeling cautious about overnight camps and sleepovers. That’s why we reimagined our MAPS program as a full-day wilderness experience - complete with tents, fire building, hiking, and, of course, ooey, gooey, chocolatey s’mores - without the need to sleep away from home.

Campers spent the day learning outdoor skills, playing games, and working together to pitch tents and build their own campfire, all while soaking in the beauty of Missoula's wild places. We’re proud to offer an option that gives kids the thrill of adventure and teamwork, while giving families peace of mind.

Club Staff Highlight

Amanda may be one of the newer faces on our team, but she hit the ground running and hasn’t slowed down since! From day one, she’s brought incredible energy, reliability, and a “jump in and get it done” attitude that has made a huge impact.

Whether it’s handling the little things that keep Club running smoothly or stepping up when things get busy, Amanda is always there - confident, capable, and ready to help. She’s become an essential part of our team, and we’re so excited to watch her continue to grow and thrive here.

Way to go, Amanda!

National Make A Will Month

Did you know that August is National Make A Will Month? It's the perfect time to take a meaningful step for yourself and your loved ones by creating or updating your will. Having a will brings peace of mind, ensures your wishes are honored, and helps reduce stress for your family during a very difficult time.

Creating a will is easier than you might think - and it's often free. There are many resources available online, including FreeWill, that offer secure, user-friendly tools to walk you through the process in less than 20 minutes. No legal fees and no strings attached.

As you plan for your future, we invite you to consider including a legacy gift to Boys & Girls Club of Missoula County. Even a small percentage of your estate can have a lasting impact - supporting safe spaces, caring mentors, and life-shaping experiences for generations of local youth.

A will isn’t just about planning for the end, it’s about the legacy you leave behind. Thank you for considering a gift that continues your values and extends your care for our kids into the future.
