FGCU's Eagle X and Alianza's Salsa Night: Student success displayed across campus as the spring semester ends

Alexis Figueroa-Baltazar, a Construction Management student at U.A. Whitaker School of Engineering, served as team captain of FGCU's 2025 ABC Construction Management Competition team. His quality control plan earned FGCU its first award in this competition.


"For FGCU, this is the first time they won an award from this competition, and I'm happy to say that my quality control plan was the one that did it," said Alexis.


The Eagle family continues advancing the goals of the 2024-2029 Strategic Plan through activities that support student success and community engagement. Eagle X, held April 22 at Alico Arena, brought together FGCU students who presented their projects to judges and visitors, answering questions about their research and its impact.


Alexis’ Eagle X exhibit, “Constructing Leadership: Navigating Challenges and Growth in the 2025 ABC Construction Management Competition,” showed his progress from alternate to team captain. Through this experience, he developed adaptability, teamwork, and strategy skills.


“To be able to come in this competition and actually excel at certain parts of it where it's not just like people from the school, it's nationally ranked, so it’s a great feeling to feel, and it was one of the first times I can really practice my leadership skills and practice what I'm trying to do,” Alexis said.


Student success at FGCU happens through faculty mentorship. Eagle X combined FGCU's traditions of Research Day and Community Engagement Day with leadership and internship opportunities, allowing students to show their work.

Alianza's First Salsa Night in collaboration with Salseros: A great success!


Faculty, staff, and students gathered at Veteran’s Pavilion on the Library Lawn for salsa lessons from FGCU Salsero students. The event created an atmosphere of relaxation and friendship regardless of dance skill.

Notice of Hanover Grant Academy 2025-2026



The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (OSRP) is soliciting nominations for the Hanover Grant Academy. The goal is for eight faculty to undergo an intensive proposal development plan over a one-year time frame. The Academy consists of approximately 4-6 in-person meetings during the year and one-on-one meetings with the Hanover experts. The requested information for application is listed below. A key factor in selection will be the goal of submitting a proposal for extramural funding. Hanover will provide grantsmanship training, proposal critique, guidance on project and alignment with grant opportunities, and proposal revision assistance. Faculty selected are expected to submit a proposal for extramural funding at the completion of the grant academy. Faculty are permitted to apply for an additional round of intensive proposal development assistance provided an application for extramural funding was submitted during their previous participation. 

 

The deadline is September 15, 2025, by 5 PM. Please submit  the application as a single pdf to Dr. Rosemary Higgins (rhiggins@fgcu.edu). Questions can be referred to Dr. Higgins.

2026 Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program Proposals - Due June 2, 2025


Faculty interested in leading a study abroad program during Spring Break, Summer or Fall 2026 may request a proposal packet by e-mailing the Study Abroad Office at studyabroad@fgcu.edu.  


Faculty proposing new programs or who have not previously led a program at FGCU should also schedule a meeting with Dr. Dechen Albero (dalbero@fgcu.edu) or Dr. Michael McDonald (mmcdonal@fgcu.edu) to discuss their plans.


Proposals and supporting documents are due via e-mail to studyabroad@fgcu.edu by June 2, 2025.

2025 Virtual Statewide Job Fair
