"I’ve always kept learning, and it was my intention to never leave the classroom. I loved that connection with kids and watching them grow, seeing them learn. I loved that, but one of my assistant superintendents encouraged me to expand my classroom and grow my impact. I became an instructional specialist, helping teachers with mathematics, my favorite subject. I helped one of our low-performing schools improve our math scores, and then I was offered an opportunity to be an assistant principal. I just saw that as my classroom getting bigger, with more ability to impact more teachers to help students be successful.
Throughout my career, that’s what I’ve done, I’ve kept learning and encouraging the principals I serve to keep learning and growing to help teachers keep learning and growing. When I think about my principals, I want them to be expert principals on their campuses, ready to help any student be successful and any teacher tackle a challenge. But a principal’s passion has to be helping teachers be successful, because when teachers are successful, students succeed, and that impact is explosive."
