LAST GAME

McGill-Toolen 42, Houston Academy 2

Dylan Brown rushed for 119 yards and 2 TDs on just six carries as McGill-Toolen used a balanced offensive attack to grind out a win.

The Yellow Jackets notched their fourth straight win.

Bo Miller threw a TD pass to Kaden Thrash.

Seth Demouey and Kevin Daughtry each added rushing TDs.

UMS-Wright 36, Glenwood 32

Max Fowler threw two touchdown passes in the final three minutes as UMS-Wright rallied on the road.

The Bulldogs trailed 32-22 after a pair of Nate Malone touchdown runs, the second coming with 4:02 left in the game and capping a 7-play, 59-yard drive.

The Gators looked to be in good shape to run out the clock, but a fumble gave the Bulldogs another chance. Fowler capitalized, this time hitting Richard Scott for the go-ahead score with 2:25 left. The PAT gave UMS a 36-32 lead.

Glenwood turned the ball over on downs, and the Bulldogs ran out the clock.

WHAT THE COACH IS SAYING

“Proud of our team’s ability to handle a short week and long road trip to come away with a region win last week. We have another short week this week. Plus, it is homecoming at McGill, so we will definitely need that focus again this week. Glenwood brings a very talented team to the Lip and will be a challenge with their explosive offense. We must get out to a fast start and gain momentum early to give ourselves the best chance for success.” - McGill-Toolen head coach David Faulkner

WHAT THE MEDIA IS SAYING

“After two relatively easy road wins against unfamiliar but overmatched opponents, look for the Jackets to sharpen their focus even more as they enter the final stretch of the region schedule, starting with yet another new opponent, only this time at home. The combo of a strong ground game featuring multiple backs, a solid offensive line, and dual QBs has proven to tire out and demoralize defenses.”  – Tom McDonald, Archangel Radio 1410-AM

COACH'S’ KEYS TO VICTORY

Coach Faulkner breaks down tonight’s game.

KEYS TO VICTORY:

OFFENSE:

1. Time of Possession: Control the clock and game by being able to run the football

2. Touchdowns in the red zone: Must put the ball in the end zone when we get in the red zone.

3. No turnovers: Can’t give Glenwood extra possessions

DEFENSE:

1. Gang tackle: Glenwood has explosive skill players. We must get multiple defenders to the ball.

2. Steal a possession or two: Must create turnovers

3. Limit explosive plays: Can’t give up big yardage run plays.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

1. Field onside kicks: Glenwood has attempted more than 10 onside kicks this year

2. Create big plays: Big return or blocked kick

A JACKETS STING

The McGill defense allowed only 2 yards from Houston Academy the entire game. The Raiders completed 3 passes for 29 yards, but they were held to -27 yards rushing on 30 attempts. The Raiders failed to convert a third down all night, finishing 0 of 7.

BROWN IS GOLD

Dylan Brown is the latest Jackets to lead the team in rushing. His 119 yards and two scores on just 6 carries led the team against Houston Academy. He is now tied for the team lead for rushing touchdowns with Ladarien Miller.

RUNNING WILD ON OPPONENTS

With Brown’s 119 yards last week, McT has now had 8 different 100-yard or more runners over the first 6 games. Kevin Daughtry has eclipsed the century mark 4 times this season (230 vs Faith, 130 vs. St. Michael, 115 vs. St. Paul’s, and 113 vs. Foley). Seth Demouey has done it three times (108 vs. St. Michael, 132 vs. St. Paul’s, and 137 vs. Foley).
