Principal's Message

Dear Miramonte Community,

We have settled into the school routine at this point and all is well. The campus is a hive of activity and the positivity on campus is easy to see. Here are some important reminders for this week:

Miramonte Boosters Board Vacancies

Miramonte Boosters is looking to immediately fill three positions on the Boosters Board. The Board needs to find a Vice President, a Fundraising and Sponsorship Chair, and a Chair of Merchandise. The Miramonte Boosters provides vital support to our athletics program and is major part of what makes Miramonte a wonderful place for students and families. Please reach out to Boosters President Dave Shindle if you are interested in joining the Boosters Board.

Grade Level Presentations Next Week

We will meet with each grade level separately during Academy next week for our annual presentations regarding expectations for student behavior on campus, as well as general information for students. Here is the list of topics we will discuss:

Cell Phone Policy

Being Out of Class During Class Periods

Lunch Time Behavior and Cleanliness

Say No to Hate

Attendance Procedures

Guidance Counseling Information

Wellness

Library Procedures and Hours

Leadership and Activities

Athletics

As you can see, these topics cover most of student life on campus and provide us the chance to reemphasize the message about what it means to be a productive, contributing member of an inclusive and supportive learning community. Since we will present to all classes by next Friday, that would be a good day for you to engage with your students about the positive messaging and reminders provided in those meetings. Miramonte is a fantastic place to go to school and we need to be diligent about reminding students what it means to support the positive culture of our school.

Traffic Circulation Improvements Initiated by the City of Orinda

The Orinda Mayor and City Council have been concerned about student traffic on residential streets around Miramonte high school and would like us to get out the word about the changes to signage and signals that Orinda has made to encourage drivers to stay on Moraga Way and off parallel residential streets.

The diagram below includes an explanation of the system changes.

Please consider these improvements as you plan your route to and from school.

Thank you for your continued support of all things Miramonte! This is truly an exceptional place!

Go Mats!

Parents' Club Message

Happy Friday Miramonte Families,

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Back to School Night! We hope you had a fun and informative evening meeting your student’s teachers and hearing from our administrators, staff, Parents’ Club leadership, Parent Advisors, and class officers. It was so great to see our campus full of families and community!

In case you missed it, here are the class presentations:

- Class of 2027 presentation

- Class of 2028 presentation

- Class of 2029 presentation

- Class of 2030 presentation

As we kick off the year, I also want to encourage everyone to get involved in whatever way works for you. Our students notice when we show up, and being involved is one of the best ways to model connection, service, and school spirit. Plus, it makes high school more fun for us, too! Whether you volunteer once, help with an event, join a committee, attend a party, go to a play or performance, or cheer at a game- it all helps build the strong Miramonte community we love. Speaking of school spirit, I hope to see you tonight at our first football game of the year...GO MATS! 💚🤍

Stay up to date with all Parents' Club activities by visiting our website. As always, please reach out with any questions or concerns.

Warmly,

Christina Linezo

ONE-Miramonte Fundraising

We hope you had a chance to attend Back-to-School Night and visit your student’s classrooms and meet their wonderful teachers!

Back-to-School Night is also an opportunity to see your ONE-Miramonte donations in action. Every class receives supplemental funding from ONE-Miramonte. These funds pay for necessary school supplies ranging from paint brushes to cooking ingredients to beakers.  Parent contributions also pay for 22 additional class sections, without which students would have fewer course options to choose from and larger class sizes.

ONE-Miramonte donations also pay for teacher professional development to keep our students’ teachers up-to-date on the best practices in education.

We are also pleased that through ONE-Miramonte donations, we have been able to provide all Miramonte teachers with improved classroom technology by paying for new laptops and monitors. Additionally, we have been able to expand our plan to purchase modern laser projectors for each classroom, significantly improving the student learning experience.  We purchased enough laser projectors over the summer to replace almost half of the classrooms’ outdated projector systems.

We have also been able to make modest improvements to the Miramonte campus. The area adjacent to the large gym was recently renovated, transforming it from a muddy patch of dirt to an inviting space for students to sit and visit between classes or at lunch. Last spring, the space next to the 100’s wing, also called the Meditation garden, was revamped from a neglected stretch of weeds and dilapidated planter boxes to an outdoor seating area blooming with new drought tolerant native plants. Where there once was trash and weeds, there are now butterflies and hummingbirds. With donations through ONE-Miramonte, we have plans to continue to make modest landscape improvements to Miramonte providing more student seating and making our campus more attractive.

Thank you to the families who have already given to ONE-Miramonte, your donation is greatly appreciated! If you have not given yet, please consider doing so today. Parent donations to ONE-Miramonte, plus our talented and dedicated teachers and faculty, makes ours an exceptional high school!

Measure W

Miramonte High School has experienced significant cuts in the past couple of years because of inadequate funding - that means fewer class offerings, larger class sizes, one librarian shared by 4 high schools, and fewer academic counselors. We feel the impact. But there is something we can do about it. Measure W is on the November 3 ballot. It will generate $6M a year for our high schools if it passes. If it doesn’t pass, more cuts are coming. Be a part of the solution and visit www.yesforourhighschools.com to endorse, get a yard sign, donate to the campaign, or volunteer. A YES vote on Measure W is a YES for Miramonte High School!

Counseling News

Below is the full counselor breakdown for this school year. As counselors, we know how important it is to be able to build relationships with students and families over the course of four years. The change in our staffing and subsequent reorganization is not something our department was supportive of, but with district budget cuts we are down to just three counselors now instead of four and a shift in caseloads was necessary.

A - G Rebecka Zielinski

H - O Ellen Conners

P - Z Nora Ganey

Schedule Changes:

-The deadline to drop a class without it appearing on your transcript is October 9.

Students who received a D or F in a graduation required course should contact their counselor to see if they are eligible for remediation through the district’s UC Scout courses. Remediation is important if your student wants to maintain UC/CSU eligibility.

Seniors:

  • Counselors are beginning to meet individually with seniors to discuss post-high school plans!
  • If your senior is applying to college, they can begin requesting transcripts via MaiaLearning.
  • Please have your student speak with their counselor immediately if they are applying EA or ED to a school.
  • Consider attending the Academy college application workshops in the College and Career Center. Students can sign up using TeachMore.
