We Felt the Love this Week!

We have celebrated a fun Staff Appreciation Week, with flowers, candy, notes of appreciation, home-baked cookies, fruit pizza made by students, door signs, Jason’s Deli boxed lunches, and more!  

We are grateful, and a very special thank you to our PTO!

¡Sentimos el cariño esta semana!

Celebramos una divertida Semana de Agradecimiento al Personal con flores, dulces, notas de agradecimiento, galletas caseras, pizza de frutas hecha por los estudiantes, letreros para las puertas, loncheras de Jason's Deli y mucho más.

Estamos muy agradecidos y queremos expresar un agradecimiento muy especial a nuestra Asociación de Padres y Maestros (PTO).

Last Night, Gillespie’s 6th and 7th grade choir and 6th-8th grade orchestra concert was a full house at Memorial’s auditorium. The concert was spectacular, with music from various genres for all to enjoy. Thank you, Ms.Schrok and Ms. Weber-McMahon, for all you do to teach and encourage our talented musicians!

Anoche, el concierto del coro de 6to. y 7mo. grado de Gillespie y de la orquesta de 6to. a 8vo. grado estuvo lleno en el auditorio del Memorial. El concierto fue espectacular, con música de diversos géneros para el disfrute de todos. ¡Gracias, Sra. Schrok y Sra. Weber-McMahon, por todo lo que hacen para enseñar y animar a nuestros talentosos músicos!

Who says learning can’t be fun? Ms. Wilsnack’s 6th-grade Wellness students studied words we could use to express our emotions and then played Twister, so these words became more familiar.

¿Quién dice que aprender no puede ser divertido? Los alumnos de Bienestar de 6.º grado de la Sra. Wilsnack estudiaron palabras que podríamos usar para expresar nuestras emociones y luego jugaron al Twister, así que estas palabras se volvieron más familiares.

Gillespie Scholars swept the winners’ table at the 3rd Annual Lt. Wayne Strong Spelling Bee! Seventh-grade student Simon Akins took home the middle school spelling bee championship. Gillespie Middle School will be receiving the traveling trophy with Simon's name on it. Simon's classmate Thomas McKay took second place, after a titanic, sixteen-round battle!

Los estudiantes Gillespie arrasaron en el 3.er Concurso Anual de Ortografía Lt. Wayne Strong. El estudiante de séptimo grado, Simon Akins, se llevó el campeonato de ortografía de secundaria. La Escuela Intermedia Gillespie recibirá el trofeo itinerante con el nombre de Simón. Su compañero de clase, Thomas McKay, obtuvo el segundo lugar tras una titánica batalla de dieciséis rondas.

8th Grade Promotion Celebration

Slight Change of Plans!

Our annual 8th-grade breakfast and promotion ceremony will be on Wednesday, June 11. 

The festivities will begin at Gillespie at 9:30 a.m. with a potluck-style breakfast for 8th-grade students, parents/guardians, and siblings. Please consider contributing to the potluck; details will follow soon. 

Following breakfast, we will walk across the parking lot to Memorial for the ceremony in the gym beginning at 10:15 am. For those not attending the breakfast, enter through Memorial’s welcome center on the Mineral Point Road side of the building, where you will be directed to the gym. Please note that high school will be in session, and parking could be an issue.

You’ll get one last time to say “goodbye” to Gillespie! After the ceremony, a cake reception will be held at Gillespie, and the event will conclude. Students may then leave for the day with their families. 

• We initially reported that the breakfast and reception would be held at Memorial, but this will take place at Gillespie due to a scheduling conflict.

Promoción de octavo grado: ¡Pequeño cambio de planes!

Nuestro desayuno anual y ceremonia de graduación de 8vo. grado será el miércoles 11 de junio.

Las festividades comenzarán en Gillespie a las 9:30 a. m. con un desayuno compartido para los estudiantes de 8vo. grado, sus padres/tutores y hermanos. Les pedimos que consideren contribuir; pronto les daremos más detalles.

Después del desayuno, cruzaremos el estacionamiento hasta Memorial para la ceremonia en el gimnasio, que comenzará a las 10:15 a. m. Si no asisten al desayuno, entren por el centro de bienvenida de Memorial, ubicado al lado de Mineral Point Road, donde se les indicará que vayan al gimnasio. Tengan en cuenta que la escuela preparatoria estará en sesión y el estacionamiento podría ser un problema.

On May 22 and 23, seventh graders will have the opportunity to participate in Gillespie’s long-standing tradition: The Mad City Challenge!

MCC is an exploration of downtown Madison and the University of Wisconsin (UW) campus. Students lead the way to the views from the Memorial Union Terrace and the State Capitol, and explore the Veterans and UW Geology museums. They complete challenges at a city fire station and throughout Camp Randall. They end the day with a scoop of ice cream at UW's Babcock Hall.  Stay tuned for further details and permission slips.

El 22 y 23 de mayo, los estudiantes de séptimo grado tendrán la oportunidad de participar en la larga tradición de Gillespie:

¡The Mad City Challenge!

MCC, por sus siglas en inglés es una exploración del centro de Madison y el campus de la Universidad de Wisconsin . Los estudiantes abren el camino hacia las vistas desde Memorial Union Terrace y el Capitolio del Estado y exploran los museos de Veteranos y Geología de la Universidad de Wisconsin. Completan desafíos en una estación de bomberos de la ciudad y en todo Camp Randall. Terminan el día con una bola de helado en el Babcock Hall de la Universidad de Wisconsin .  We are now wrapping up the year, and here are a few updates I have for MSCR:

All MSCR programs will be ending Friday, May 23rd. Our next flag football game will be on May 7th. If we win, we go to the playoffs on May 17th. I will keep you updated if your child is playing. 

As we also wrap up the year, there will be an MSCR field trip to Mt.Olympus on June 7th. Only 30 students will be eligible to go; it is first-come, first-served to anyone who has participated in MSCR this year.

Estamos terminando el año y aquí les dejo algunas actualizaciones para MSCR:

Todos los programas de MSCR terminan el viernes 23 de mayo. Nuestro próximo partido de fútbol de bandera será el 7 de mayo. Si ganamos, iremos a las eliminatorias el 17 de mayo. Les mantendré informados si su hijo/a participa.

Al finalizar el año, habrá una excursión de MSCR al Mt.Olympusel 7 de junio. Solo 30 estudiantes podrán asistir; la inscripción se realizará por orden de llegada para todos los que hayan participado en MSCR este año.
