Greetings!
It is hard to believe it has been almost a year since we first closed our doors and braced for the pandemic. Since that time, our dedicated staff have been working tirelessly to offer adapted services and schedules to meet the needs our community members, while always keeping in mind the safety of staff and patrons.
I am deeply grateful for their hard work and tireless efforts to serve you through on-line programs, recorded storytimes, BookMatch Bundles, "Grab and Go" crafts and STEM bags, curbside pick-up services, and more. We are so grateful for your patience as we navigate these uncharted waters.
The staff is now hard at work on an operations plan that will allow us to safely open our doors to the public. We will share information on our efforts as soon as we can.
Be well.

Read-A-Thon Wrap-Up
February 28 - March 6
Our Read-A-Thon week has been so much fun! We enjoyed seeing those who were able to stop by at our Wednesday Read Across America event in the Library Park Gazebo - and it was so wonderful to loan out over two dozen new books! We are so proud of our readers and grateful for everyone who has supported the Read-A-Thon by participating and contributing. Remember that any of Ms. Katy's read aloud stories count towards your reading minutes goal as well!
If you have been participating with pledge sheets and collected donations, please plan to return them to the library by Monday, March 15. Simply seal your envelope and drop it in the book return. Don't forget to include your completed pledge form and reading log! Facebook fundraisers will be automatically credited to their designated readers and we will be in touch during the week of March 15 with prize details.
If you would like to sponsor a reader, please contact Emily at 207-443-5141 x 19 or via email to discuss options.
Lastly, it's not too late to participate and you can earn prizes for raising $25 or more. See our webpage for more.

Bicycling the Silk Road
Wednesday, March 17, 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
In 2015, Peter and Coco embarked on a journey to bicycle from China to Italy via the ancient Silk Road. Peter grew up in Pownal, Maine and Coco hails from the town of Seregno in northern Italy. They both studied Chinese language in college/university and their love of Chinese culture drew them both to the city of Kunming in China's southwestern Yunnan Province where they first met. Not long after meeting they devised a plan to travel by bicycle from China to Coco's hometown in Italy, an epic journey of thousands of miles that would take them through ten countries over the course of a
year.

Women's History Month
Each week during Women's History Month, we'll share items and collections from the History Room that illuminate women's history in our communities. The Old Ladies' Home collection (MC 009), includes information about how the charitable institution was founded in the 1870s, how it ran until the 1970s, and the many women who retired to the home at 800 High Street after careers as housekeepers, cooks, seamstresses, teachers, and librarians. The collection also includes the papers of Mabel Cushing Rouse, a seamstress who lived at the home from 1892 to 1905. Watch our History Room Live presentation about the collection here.
F.J. Rollins photographed 12 unidentified "old ladies" sometime between 1900 and 1907. Do any of these faces look familiar to you?
